Resource Management- Financial Aid at Georgia Military College is now seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Financial Aid Specialist at our Main Campus.

Primary Purpose:

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for administering federal, state, and institutional financial aid including grants, loans, scholarships, federal work-study, and consortium agreements. Requires extensive knowledge and understanding of financial aid programs and regulations, and operates computer application software packages including those designed specifically for processing financial aid. Acting as a working lead to Financial Aid Assistants, the Financial Aid Specialist is also responsible for contributing to their team’s processing goals and is a resource and contact for fourteen campuses throughout Georgia, an Online Campus, and to over 14,000 students.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Conduct verification on selected Department of Education files, assuring compliance with each verification tracking flag and other federal guidelines.

• Examine financial data in regards to the student and their households, to determine financial aid eligibility.

• Coordinate and send notifications concerning applications and missing documentation.

• Originate federal and private student loans and process response records.

• Analyze various system-generated reports and/or queries to verify continued compliance and eligibility of students receiving financial aid under federal, state, and institutional guidelines; notify students of any changes in eligibility of awards.

• Continuously communicate with all GMC campuses to report the progress of files and/or issues of which they need to be made aware.

• Be a resource to each campus regarding the financial aid process, and aid them in solving all financial aid issues that may arise.

• Consult with various offices within the institution and external agencies (lenders, federal student aid processor) to resolve eligibility, processing, certification, and disbursement issues.

• Daily importing of Institutional Student Information Records (ISIR) information into Datatel.

• Implements the use of automated computerized financial aid management systems for packaging student awards, while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines.

• Work directly with the Business Office and the Georgia Student Finance Commission to resolve all State Errors concerning the awarding of students' Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant and the Hope Scholarship.

• Determines eligibility for students interested in the Federal Work-Study program and then places qualified students in both on-campus and off-campus positions. The Financial Aid Specialist also processes Federal Work Study timesheets bi-weekly, monitors all Federal Work Study eligibility limits to ensure students are not exceeding these limits, and ultimately oversees the administration and budget of the Federal Work-Study program for all campuses.

• Determining, processing and accurately awarding Dual Enrollment Program funds to eligible, dual enrolled students.

• Maintains a constant, updated knowledge of federal and other student financial aid programs, guidelines, and regulations, to ensure compliance. In doing so the Financial Aid Specialist is to attend conferences and workshops as assigned to continuously stay current on all changes within the federal and state regulations.

• Manage the centralized FAHelp email account and respond to or distribute correspondence.

• Process various financial aid reports, and distribute them to the appropriate Financial Aid Specialists and campuses. The reports include but are not limited to the Loan Query Report, Direct Loan Notification Report, Welcome Letter Report, Pending Aid Report, Elm (Private Loan) Report, and the GTEG Report.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred: Master’s Degree

Experience:

Minimum: 3 years of Financial Aid experience

Preferred: 5 years of Financial Aid experience
