Summer employment opportunity in our Optical Production departments (Thin Film, Plano and Spherical), the student will use skills obtained through their education as well as on the job training to gain exposure to our Thin Film deposition as well as Optical Manufacturing processes. Skills obtained during this four month opportunity will include: set up and operation of Thin Film EB chambers, exposure to Elipsometry, exposure to Interferometry as well as a multitude of Spherical and Plano optics fabrication processes. In addition, the student will also be maintaining specifications outlined in work instruction packages as well as ensuring that the operation is efficient, safe and that product quality is achieved.

Primary Responsibilities:
Operating vacuum coating machines for the application of single, multi-layer coatings
Inspecting and cleaning of optical components
Preparing, cleaning and loading of coating chambers
Performing metrology measurement, such as transmission, reflection and elipsometry
Rough/Fine grinding and polishing of spherical and plano optics.
Overview of spherical lens manufacturing
Interferometry and optical metrology.
Blocking, grinding, shaping and polishing of prisms
Polishing Plano optics by machine as well as hand correction
Optical Beveling

Qualifications & Experience:
Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma - Grade 12
Completion of one year College in related field
Ability to be organized, self-motivated, dependable, and work well with others in a multi-tasking environment
Demonstrated ability to follow rules and regulations, complying with all Environmental, Health, & Safety Organizational Directives and Instructions and all other Site Directives and Company Policies
