Discover Impactful Work:

Provides line-level management coordination of resources and work schedules for laboratory activities. Oversees daily operations and assists in preparation and implementation of company policies, quality systems and training programs. Ensures that projects are completed in a timely manner so that company revenues are met and clients are satisfied with the quality and turnaround time of work being performed. Ensures that laboratory staff continues to be developed to keep pace with department goals and growth.

This position is for a Group Leader in Molecular Biology Specialty Team, Cell and Gene Department with focus on Next Generation Sequencing method development and validation as well as future routine testing.

The GL will oversee the operational aspects and laboratory conduct of a Next Generation Sequencing method establishment and QC testing, in GMP environment working with various clients. The GL provides management and direction to laboratory staff and resources for project activities and needs, oversees daily operations to monitor quality and project timelines, and assist in preparation and implementation of company policies, quality systems and training programs. Ensures responsiveness to the customer and overall, client satisfaction. Plans and monitors the progress and quality of projects by utilizing the financial and quality management tools available at PPD. The NGS Supervisor will handle and supervise the daily operations of the team for next-generation sequencing (NGS) projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of lab staff and the execution/improvement of its responsibilities to support the organization’s NGS Operations. Duties of the team will focus on development of NGS services at PPD, method development validation and eventually routine testing.

  • Partner with Project Management and the NGS laboratory team to provide NGS sample libraries that meet operational and quality standards, as well as customer/project deadlines

  • Responsible for personnel activities of direct reports including training, performance evaluations, goal setting, and setting employee objectives for business initiatives and other key performance indicators

  • Oversee method development and validation, quality control, distribution, materials management, and services maintenance activities in a manner that meets customer needs.

  • Plan, schedule and handle assigned functions to ensure customer projects are completed on time and the data is of high quality

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree or equivalent

Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years) or equivalent and relevant combination of education, training, & experience.

  • 1+ year of leadership responsibility

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency on technical operating systems

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Ability to train and mentor junior staff

  • Demonstrated ability to be project solution driven

  • Good written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills

  • Can independently perform root cause analysis for method investigations

  • Technical writing skills; ability to write quality documents (SOPs, investigation forms, etc.)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of QA metrics of program base; ability to write and recommend changes to PPD SOPs

  • Ability to independently optimize analytical methods

  • Project and time leadership skills

  • Experience with staff oversight preferred

  • Proven record leading a cross-functional team to efficiently meet designated project goals and/or critical metrics

  • Experience in laboratory setting preferable with experience in NGS technologies, experience within a molecular or sequencing laboratory preferred

  • Confirmed experience with the development and implementation of new technologies and technical processes that improve the quality, efficiency, and productivity of laboratory services

  • Familiarity with high-throughput automation

  • Experience working within a BSL 2 laboratory
