Responsible for procuring raw materials and finished goods to support a major product category, as well as managing indirect purchases of consumable products for Plants and Distribution Centers. Responsible for placing and confirming purchase orders, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and conducting cost analyses to ensure optimal pricing, quality, and delivery performance. Leads continuous improvement initiatives, including refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), system testing, and optimizing procurement processes for greater efficiency.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

Responsible for purchase of raw materials and finished goods for manufacturing site and/or distribution center.

Proactively maintains all open purchase orders, supplier ship dates, past due purchase orders and purchase order acknowledgement.

Maintains the ERP (Avante) MRP parameters for lead time, safety stocks, minimum order quantities, transit times.

Manages, resolves and escalates problems regarding delivery, quality, receiving and invoicing in a timely manner to ensure inventory availability.

Identifies and expedites shortages and shipping delays in a pro-active manner and escalates as necessary to meet Operations requirements.

Primary contact for internal customers for product availability, new products, end of life (phase in/out), economic order and manufacturing quantities, etc.

Work closely with cross-functional teams (Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Finance, etc.) to understand procurement needs and align purchasing strategies.

Assist Sourcing Manager on RFQ, evaluation, negotiation, business award decisions.

Monitor supplier performance, track key procurement metrics, and generate reports for leadership.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, ensuring timely deliveries and adherence to quality standards.

Nature and Scope

  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.

  • Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to the expected results. Determines and develops an approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.

  • May oversee the completion of projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Contributes to employees' professional development but does not have hiring or firing authority.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally, 5-8 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.

  • 8+ years' supply chain experience

  • Experience working with an ERP based system and maintaining MRP data fields.

  • Experience with spreadsheet and database technologies.

  • Knowledge of the principles of inventory control and operations management.

  • Understanding of purchasing, scheduling, and MRP techniques. Ability to think on a conceptual level.
