NBC Universal Sr Manager, Scenic Fabrication Ops in Miami, Florida

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

The Sr. Manager of Scenic Fabrication Operations is responsible for the overall management of the Scenic Fabrication shop’s day to day operations, projects and personnel. This includes ensuring the success of all projects assigned to the Scenic Fabrication team, delivering on scope within established budget, on schedule and with high client satisfaction. He/she implements and maintains efficient workflows and best practices for schedule, material inventory, vendor and contractors’ management, recruitment, cleanliness, tools, trainings, career planning, personnel management including PTO and pay practice, compliance and safety.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for supervising all aspects of daily operations and projects within the Scenic Fabrication Operations team.

  • Acts as a role model and leader for the team, focusing on learning and continuous improvement.

  • Creates in collaboration with his/her leadership team, training and growth plan for his/her team.

  • Focuses on developing team’s communication skillset with clients and partners in both English and Spanish.

  • Manages small to large scale projects from initiation to closing, including client facing meetings for project initiation, kick-off meetings and status update meetings.

  • Tracks all clients’ demands and ensures on time, on budget and per scope delivery.

  • Manages all necessary activities to align teams and resources for the projects’ success.

  • Provides status reports and ensures proper communication with all stakeholders.

  • Manages risks and creates mitigation plan.

  • Manages the overall labor and inventory budget for assigned department.

  • Oversees the hiring process for all personnel and contractors, ensuring proper and timely onboarding and consistent pay practices.

  • Responsible for accurate data entry in the Workshop software (E2) and Xytech, ensuring that data is current and up to date, reconciling work orders and purchase orders.

  • Develops and maintains vendor relations.

  • Evaluates vendor proposals / quotes and negotiates for best rates and product costs.

  • Assists with evaluation of work requests and supervises the proposal / quote timely creation, review and submission.

  • Acts as the liaison/communication point between the internal and external clients and the Scenic Fabrication team, in collaboration with the project manager and the Scenic Technical Solutions team.

  • Works closely with the Scenic Fabrication Manager, Set Dressing, Project Management and the Scenic Technical Solutions team to assist with any special needs.

  • Manages and approves all new equipment and tool purchase requests.

  • Oversees the creation and execution of the tool maintenance plans, cleaning plan, PTO plan, and overall calendar of activities.

  • Leads the Manager of Scenic Fabrication, Supervisors and Foremen in evaluating, and monitoring the work quality, progress, and high performance of all assigned projects.

  • Evaluates and proposes new software, technology, hardware, and equipment to assist in business development.

  • Ensures that all work is done under the technical guidelines and operations procedures of NBCU/Telemundo and adheres to EHS/OSHA regulations and procedures.

  • Follows policies, applicable laws, and regulations to protect his/her own health and safety as well as that of other workers, the public, and the environment.

  • Presents proactively ideas that support EHS goals and policies to your business or EHS leader.

  • Raises concerns about possible violations of EHS policies to your manager, business and EHS Leader

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Director, Production & Scenic Services and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by his management.

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading construction projects within the entertainment industry.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing teams.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in suppliers and vendor management including creation of work orders and purchase orders.

  • Must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish (both written & verbal).

  • Demonstrated experience in project management.

  • Exhibits knowledge and understanding of project management methodologies and tools.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing inventory management solutions (E2 or other), Autocad and Vectorworks

  • Demonstrated experience with CNC software (Enroute)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety requirements.

  • Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Smartsheet

  • Must be able to perform physical activities required of this position which includes, but is not limited to, climbing, lifting, balancing stooping, and handling of materials.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Graduate degree in engineering, business management, construction management or architecture

  • Prior experience in the TV industry and Scenic Fabrication or in the commercial construction industry

  • Exceptional communication, time management, analytical and organizational skills

  • Ability to negotiate and influence others.

  • Self-starter who exhibits ownership on assigned tasks and who will push for solutions that solve immediate problems while building towards long-term goals.
