Cisco Wireless Regulatory Engineer in Mexico City, Mexico

What You’ll Do

As a radio spectrum engineering technical leader, you will be a key member of the team responsible for promoting a healthy ecosystem for Cisco’s wireless products by supporting global harmonization of spectrum policy with a particular focus on the South American market.

You will be responsible for developing and presenting technical inputs to regulatory forums and to the regulatory advisory groups within standard bodies, (e.g. IEEE 802.18, ETSI BRAN, ECC SE 45, Inter-America Telecommunication Commission (CITEL), various study groups and working parties of the ITU-R SG5 WPs) as well as engaging directly with regulators. The successful candidate will also be expected, when necessary, to represent Cisco at various industry bodies, forums, and conferences (e.g. Wi-Fi Alliance, Wireless Broadband Alliance, Dynamic Spectrum Alliance, etc.)

This position requires an industry veteran with deep knowledge of both international spectrum regulation and wireless standards as well as previous experience in dealing with regulators, regulatory issues, and their associated national processes in North and South America.

Who You’ll Work With

You’ll be working in the wireless CTO’s team and will work closely with colleagues from all over the company including product engineering, compliance, government affairs, standards, as well as our customer and partner organization.

Who You Are

Ideally you-

· understand radio compatibility "sharing studies" and the tools used to generate related technical proofs.

· are familiar with the mechanics of regulatory and compliance texts such as the ITU Radio Regulations, the working procedures, publications, and structure of CITEL, and title 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations in the US.

· understand the differing spectrum licensing regimes and spectrum access systems.

· have some prior knowledge of the operational characteristics of other radio services including radar, fixed terrestrial, and space.

· have a broad knowledge of propagation physics and the current generation of radio electronics behind Wi-Fi and 5G.

· can construct and defend technical arguments in the face of political, non-technical opposition.

· Fluent Spanish speaker

· Familiar with regulatory processes and actors in key LATAM markets
