BlackRock Associate, Corporate Tax (LatAm) in Mexico City, Mexico

Business Unit Overview:

The LATAM Tax Group is responsible for managing the corporate tax compliance and other income tax affairs for BlackRock corporate entities. This includes managing LATAM tax policy, strategy, risk, compliance, and accounting.

Purpose/Background:

Sitting with BlackRock's LATAM Tax Group, this role will play a critical part in supporting the LATAM tax compliance and tax accounting affairs for BlackRock’s LATAM business (Brazil, Chile, Peru, Mexico, Colombia and Dominican Republic).

The role will involve close interactions with other internal teams and external advisors to proactively manage the tax compliance for the region. The role will principally involve the coordination of BlackRock’s monthly and annual tax returns across the region.

The role offers the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external; provide thought leadership across BlackRock’s income tax processes, controls and use of tax technology; support with tax audits; be involved in a variety of project work – both tax (income tax and VAT) specific and firm-wide.

We’re looking for a highly skilled, qualified tax professional, who is well organized, has very strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple work streams with varied deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the corporate income tax compliance obligations of BlackRock corporate entities in LATAM, including but not limited to monthly and annual corporate tax as well as the associated audits

  • Support the Global VAT team on specific requirements for the region

  • Address corporate income tax queries from the local tax authorities, and manage local tax disputes, litigations and appeals

  • Work closely with Controllers on providing data do the external compliance advisors and provide tax support as appropriate

  • Support tax accounting related activities, including but not limited to preparation of monthly/year-end tax provisions under US and local GAAPs, assisting Global Tax on quarterly ETR forecasts, as well as analysing and explaining to stakeholders on any fluctuation in ETR. posting adjustments to the general ledger; ensuring prompt resolution of any accounting issues; completion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations; responding to queries from external auditors

  • Supporting with tax audits, and BlackRock’s responses to tax authority requests and manage tax invitation (Mexico) as and when arises

  • Actively contributing to the development and enhancement of income tax processes and controls

  • Responding to income tax queries from business groups, external advisors, and other stakeholders

  • Supporting with project work, both indirect tax specific and the indirect tax aspects of wider organisational initiatives

  • Involve in ad hoc project as the need arises

  • Supporting any tax technology initiatives

Experience/Competencies:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ continuous experience working with tax compliance

  • Ability to clearly and confidently communicate in verbal and written form (English and Spanish (both written and verbal)

  • Ability to develop a network and collaborative working relationships across multiple teams internally, and with external tax advisors

  • Highly organised, strong attention to detail with ability to prioritise and manage multiple work streams to ensure all deadlines are met

  • Team player, with an ability to adjust to change and the desire to take on responsibility and be proactive.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Skills/Qualifications:

  • University degree and/or professional qualification in accounting and/or tax Experience working in Financial Services and/or a multinational organisation advantageous

  • Experience of Oracle preferred, but not essential

  • Competent in use of Microsoft Excel, including the use of advanced formulas and pivot tables
