Job Summary:

The SaaS Release Manager is responsible for the management of all stages of the release lifecycle, including the planning, scheduling, deploying, and monitoring of software releases. They ensure that the release process meets organizational standards and customer expectations, minimizing the impact of release-related issues. The role requires strong project management skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, quality assurance, and customer support.

Requirements

Release Management:

  • Plan, schedule, and control the software's development and delivery process to ensure the consistent deployment of high-quality releases.

  • Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, third-party applications, or operating system updates.

  • Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule, and quality.

  • Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and meet or exceed expectations.

  • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations.

Process Improvement:

  • Develop and refine release management processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Implement best practices consistent with an agile development framework.

  • Facilitate post-release reviews to gather feedback and lessons learned to integrate into future release processes.

Communication:

  • Communicate release details and schedules to the Business as required.

  • Negotiate, plan, and manage all release activities.

  • Work closely with the development and operations teams to understand impacts of branches and code merges.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that quality standards are adhered to during the development and implementation of releases.

  • Conduct Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews.

Project Management:

  • Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists.

  • Maintain a release repository and manage key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

  • Proven experience in release management or in a similar role in software development.

  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.

  • Excellent project management skills and experience managing multiple releases simultaneously.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to manage complex cross-functional projects and teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.

  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review.

  • Understanding of version control systems like GIT, SVN, etc.

  • Experience with automation tools and scripting.
