Job Description & Qualifications: Job Summary Part-time Instructional Assistants will support our CDL faculty and full-time Instructional Assistants with the instruction of our Trucking Driving (Class A) Technical program and Straight Truck (Class B) certificate. The CDL program is housed under the School of Public Safety and operates at our Public Safety Center of Excellence in Merrill, Wisconsin. Typical schedule will be Monday through Friday with day time hours working up to 25 hours per week. Hours are subject to change, as workload and the needs of our students and customers change. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Essential Functions Provide direct support to faculty during the training of students. Prepare tractors, trailers, and driving courses for student activities Take the lead for formative lab instruction if faculty are not available (sick leave, meetings, etc.) As requested by the faculty, assist students practicing on various driving techniques. Recommend procedural and safety discussions topics to the faculty based on observed student practices. Treat all students and customers with respect at all time. Issue driving procedures and assist faculty by ensuring students operate vehicles in a safe manner. Participate in in-service training and industrial workshops pertaining to the operation and applications of vehicles. Assist the program faculty with the procurement of materials and supplies (including pickup and delivery). Assist the faculty with the setting up of activities for students. Proctor tests, quizzes and performance assessments. Monitor attendance and use of vehicles. Assist in the documentation of maintenance of vehicles. Maintain an inventory of instructional materials and equipment within the lab. Coordinate the activities of work-study students as directed by the faculty. Monitor the use and prepare the track and vehicles for student use. Demonstrate skills as needed with the direction of the faculty. Report repair requirements on all vehicles to faculty. Assist the faculty in monitoring students on operational safety. Maintain proficiency in the truck driving field as needed to support the Truck Driving program.
