Position Overview:

Join the dynamic IT team at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and take your career to the next level as our Senior DevOps Engineer! We're looking for a seasoned technologist ready to oversee our central practice of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and cutting-edge DevOps practices.

As the Senior DevOps Engineer with us, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, spearheading the development of container-based microservices and serverless applications using Kubernetes and other leading technologies. You'll be able to flex your coding skills, designing and implementing robust CI/CD pipelines that ensure seamless deployment across cloud and on-premises environments.

You'll have the chance to collaborate with a talented team of professionals from various disciplines, exchanging ideas and driving initiatives that enable our organization's goals. Your expertise and problem-solving skills will be essential as we optimize performance, scalability, and efficiency.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the practice of container-based microservices and serverless applications using Kubernetes in a hybrid environment.

  • Develop code pipelines to automate application, platform, and infrastructure deployment using CI/CD solutions that leverage various technologies, such as GitHub Enterprise.

  • Evaluate and implement information security products, including Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB).

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess cloud requirements and design scalable, reliable, and secure cloud solutions.

  • Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies, platforms, and tools to optimize performance, cost-efficiency, and resource utilization.

  • Conducted regular security audits and implemented best practices to ensure the integrity and security of the infrastructure.

  • Work as a project leader, as needed, for projects of moderate complexity.

  • Provide technical leadership and promote collaboration and knowledge exchange amongst the team.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and ten years of increasingly technical work experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong track record of designing and implementing cloud solutions.

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform or CloudFormation).

  • Strong understanding of cloud architectural patterns, microservices, and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Familiarity with networking concepts, including VPNs, VPCs, and security groups.

  • Solid understanding of security principles, protocols, and best practices in a cloud environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to anticipate and mitigate potential issues.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect) are a plus.

The expected pay range for this position is $161,000 - $225,000. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
