Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a talented Senior Rail Operation Analyst to join our World Class Rail Team in our New York Metro Region office. In this position the ideal candidate shall have in education and/or experience in Rail Operations, Transportation Planning, Rail Signal Systems and/or related areas of expertise. The applicant should have interest, education and/or experience in the following technical areas of expertise:

Rail Operations;

  • Train-control or train-operation experience.

  • Employee timetables.

  • Operating rules and special instructions.

  • Employee training programs.

  • Braking-distance tests.

  • Construction and maintenance “under traffic” while continuing train operations.

  • Station dwell times.

  • Control-center functionality and staffing.

  • Train crewing.

Rail Operations Planning;

  • Line and interlocking configurations.

  • Terminal and yard configurations.

  • Various train-scheduling techniques – local, express, skip-stop, zone, etc.

  • Origination & Destination (O&D) studies.

  • Signal-system alternatives.

  • Railroad and rail-transit signaling for both safety and for headway/capacity requirements.

  • Crewing and staffing.

  • Computer simulation of rail systems, both network and TPC.

  • Locating storage yards and maintenance facilities.

  • Designing for and determining operating speeds.

  • Construction-staging support.

  • Analysis of alternatives.

  • Governmental regulations such as the Code of Federal Regulations aka the FRA rules.

Signal-System Analysis and Design;

  • Railroad signaling and/or rail-transit signaling.

  • Signal-block layout analysis and design.

  • Designing for close headways and high capacities.

  • Signal-aspect and cab-signal control-line analysis and design.

  • Safe-braking distances, criteria and methodologies.

  • Positive Train Control (PTC).

  • Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC).

  • Conceptualizing new signal systems and recommending operating and/or cab-signal speeds

  • Signal-system headways and capacities.

  • Wayside signaling, cab-signaling, train-stop signaling (mechanical and electromagnetic trippers), and hybrids thereof.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements;

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering or related field plus 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.

  • 6 years’ experience with designing Train Control Systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering license (NY).

  • 15 years of experience in Rail Operations, Transportation Planning, Rail Signal Systems.

  • Experience with train control systems for one or more of the following: commuter rail, subway, freight, light rail systems and street car systems.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $153,000.00 - $195,000.00.
