Description:
Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the Unit Manager, professional staff and
physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient. Responsible for service
excellence in both direct and indirect care of patients.
GENERAL PATIENT CARE & TRANSPORT- Meets the comfort and hygiene
needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral
hygiene, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, foley care, skin care and garment,
linen and bedding changes. Distributes meals and beverages, takes,
collects lab specimens, weighs patients on admission and as needed.
Maintains patient safety by assisting with ambulating patients, including
those with assistive devices such as crutches and with transfer/transport
procedures. Collects and records intake and output.
TECHNICAL CARE-Assists with completion of patient testing and
treatment procedures, performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation when
necessary, documents vital signs in the electronic medical record.
EQUIPMENT & ENVIRONMENT- Assists physician and professional staff in
equipment supply and set-up. Maintains unit supplies as directed.
Maintains unit cleanliness by putting away equipment and wiping down
bedside tables and cabinets, bedrails, and patient phone daily.
COMMUNICATION- Performs required documentation and communicates
in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family
needs and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of
patient, employee, and department information to ensure patient rights.
Performs purposeful hourly rounds as directed. Responds to patient call
lights in a timely fashion and uses communication devices as directed.
Demonstrates service excellence standards. Basic computer knowledge
to communicate through Epic and Outlook.
PATIENT EXPERIENCE- Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote
quality, safety, cost, and patient experience outcomes.
Other department specific duties as assigned.
