*POSITION SUMMARY: *

To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by providing diagnostic cardiovascular, invasive cardiovascular, peripheral, device implants, and electrophysiology studies in a timely, safe and efficient manner. The Cardio Invasive Specialist is expected to work in a team environment assisting with cleaning of rooms, restocking and updating supplies, as well assisting with development and implementation of departmental needs and projects. The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist needs to be proficient in all aspects of angiography, sterile preparation, assessment, documentation, and monitoring consistent with the policies and procedures of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and hospital administration, with responsibility to adhere to all the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

*PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES *

  1. Proficiently performs diagnostic procedures in at least one of the Heart and Vascular Laboratory areas: interventional coronary, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and/or interventional neurology.
  2. Performs all aspects of monitoring, recording, scrubbing, holding room responsibilities, and/or stimming with professionalism and expertise.
  3. Identifies and prepares patient using aseptic technique as dictated by procedure ordered. Exhibits awareness of hazards which may endanger patients. Ensures adherence to and enforces radiation safety standards.
  4. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology and uses this knowledge to enhance hemodynamic and angiographic techniques as observed by the attending physician.
  5. Recognizes and communicates the electrocardiographic/ hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure. Recognizes potential emergency/life threatening situations and implements preventative measures as directed by the physician.
  6. Moves, lifts, or assists patient appropriately to procedure table and provides for maximum privacy during procedure.
  7. Produces accurate and complete procedural documentation for each patient based on the scope and complexity of the intervention procedure and patient clinical conditions. Maintains authenticity and security of the record, and follows prescribed process for amending documents. Ensures all supplies and medications are properly documented for patient charges, accurately utilizing the hospital’s inventory systems.
  8. Takes call as rotated/assigned and responds (in hospital) per policy.
  9. Facilitates timely patient throughput.
    1. Participates in inventory and supply management.
    2. Annually meets all required department specific competencies.

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS *

Education: Graduate of a program for:

  • Cardiopulmonary Technology/Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, or
  • Respiratory Therapy, or
  • Radiological Technology, or
  • EMS-P, or
  • Surgical Technology, or
  • Cardiovascular Tech, or
  • Completion of an On-The-Job-Training Tech program.

*Licensure: *

  • AART required and maintained for Radiological Technologist program graduates.
  • RRT required and maintained for Respiratory Therapist program graduates.

*Certification: *

  • EMT-P Certification required and maintained for Paramedic program graduates.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
  • VI or RCIS or RCES or CI required and maintained for Radiology, Cardiopulmonary and Cardiovascular program graduates.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Healthcare Provider Completion Card must be obtained within 90 days of hire/transfer and maintained.
  • NIH (Stroke) required within one (1) year of hire/transfer into Neuro Interventional Lab and maintained.

*Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: *

  • Ability to take call acknowledging emergency alerts within five (5) minutes and present to hospital within 30 minutes of alert.
  • Knowledge of ECG training and arrhythmia interpretation.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular and vascular anatomy.
  • Knowledge of Hemodynamic Monitoring.
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of MS Office – Outlook and Word.
  • Excellent communication skills in an active team environment.
  • Ability to assess and interpret data.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with patient/family/physicians at various levels of understanding.
  • Ability to monitor patient blood pressure, ECG, and Pulse Oximetry using sophisticated clinical equipment.
