*CLASSIFICATION FEATURES: * The individual in this class performs maintenance and repairs of all types of equipment used in municipal services, including heavy trucks, heavy equipment, machinery, light trucks, automobiles and various other engine powered equipment, skilled and semi-skilled, at the journeyman mechanic level.  An employee in this classification may perform complex repair jobs or a variety of servicing tasks on mechanical equipment.  Work performed is under the supervision of the Equipment Maintenance Superintendent and is checked through inspection by the Equipment Maintenance Superintendent or through the performance of the equipment serviced.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* *Maintains and inspects trucks, backhoes, tractors, automobiles, mowers and other miscellaneous engine driven equipment.

Performs welding, cutting and fabrication tasks using torches, plasma torch and stick and MIG welders.

Changes tires on equipment.

Performs preventive maintenance, inspection and related servicing of equipment as scheduled, including road test after repairs are complete.

Troubleshoots and diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic system problems. 

Disassembles, repairs and reassembles equipment as necessary in the shop or on road service calls.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance.

Performs shop clean-up tasks as required.

Assists in maintaining an inventory of parts required for maintenance purposes.

Able to perform the physical duties that include but are not limited to having the strength and agility sufficient to lift and maneuver heavy objects such as tools, equipment and parts, and to climb into and operate vehicles and equipment.  Ability to stand or walk during the majority of a scheduled shift with bending, stooping, squatting, climbing in and out of vehicles and equipment, twisting, reaching and working in cramped spaces throughout the day. 

 

EDUCATIONAL, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED, along with some journeyman level mechanic experience in a repair shop or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. 

Experience with the operation and repair of air brake systems and hydraulic systems. 

Basic knowledge of the safe operation of equipment and shop safety.

Valid commercial driver's license (w/airbrake endorsement) issued by the State of Ohio and must remain insurable under the City of Medina's vehicle insurance plan.
