Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions effectively using a C & E Arts Therapist discipline. Document in the Medical Record according to established guidelines including assessments and treatment progress notes.

  • Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches and promote positive patient experiences.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing special project related to patient care in coordination with the unit leadership, pending approval of C & E Arts Therapist Program Coordinator/Supervisor. Request and care for supplies responsibly and appropriately with consideration for the safety of the population. Monitor for safe and responsible use of supplies.

  • Conducts C & E Arts Therapist specialty training/orientation activities when requested. Consults with C & E Arts Therapist Program Coordinator/supervisor, service line leadership, and unit leadership on revising and implementing new initiatives.

  • Supervise students with oversight/support from C & E Arts Therapist Program Coordinator/supervisor.

  • Provide 1-3 hospital based in-services or trainings related to C & E Arts Therapist disciplines yearly. Up 10% of weekly hours can be allotted for non-clinical duties as approved by C & E Arts Therapist Program Coordinator/Supervisor.

  • Attend department and/or assigned meetings regularly. Maintain professional certification/licensure as per CEU requirements. Attend 2-5 unit based or institute wide in-services/trainings yearly. Participate in a hospital-wide committee/workgroup. Learn and use up-to-date technology and practices in delivery of patient care.

  • Masters degree in a Creative/Expressive arts therapy such as Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy, or in a related Mental Health field from an accredited college or university is required.

  • 2 - 6 years experience (graduate internship training hours excluded) delivering group and individual clinical treatment using a specific C & E Arts Therapist discipline is needed.

  • The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, IV poles, etc.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Candidates must hold the minimum credentialing for a creative arts discipline such as: Art Therapy (ATR-BC); Music Therapy (MT-BC); Dance/Movement Therapy (BC-DMT); Drama Therapy (RDT).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

  • Act 34
