The Income Tax Analyst prepares federal and state income tax returns and estimated tax payments for SMG and its subsidiaries, assists with accounting for income and other taxes, coordinates federal and state tax audits, and performs tax research & planning and special projects. Ensures compliance with all applicable tax laws while minimizing the company's tax liabilities. Maintains high ethical standards and supports the company's reputation for integrity. In this role, the Income Tax Analyst: * Prepares federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns and estimated payment calculations. Minimizes taxes by proper application of tax exemptions, claims, credits, abatements and other tax avoidance methods. * Assists with federal, state and local tax audits by gathering/responding to requested information. * Assists with inter-period tax provision and allocation under ASC 740 / FIN 48, records timing and permanent differences between income for financial and tax purposes and maintains tax basis balance sheets for deferred tax calculations. * Performs ongoing review and research of domestic tax laws, court decisions, and administrative pronouncements to ensure the company's compliance and identify opportunities for tax savings. Assists with special projects to implement tax strategies, reduce worldwide taxes, and/or document and support current tax positions. * Maintains domestic tax account roll forwards for all federal and state accrued and deferred tax accounts. * Assists in preparing domestic and foreign transfer pricing studies to support arm's-length pricing of intercompany payments for goods and services. * Maintains proper documentation and testing of procedures to ensure adequate internal controls and to satisfy requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 404. The perfect person will have: * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. * One to three years tax experience with a major corporation or CPA firm. * Familiarity with accounting principles and procedures, some knowledge of federal and state income and franchise tax laws. * Microsoft Office proficient. * Ability to meet deadlines consistently and deal effectively with auditors * Oral/Written communication and presentation skills * Teamwork skills resolving issues in group situations * Proactivity and diligence in self review of deliverables * Ability to succeed in a hybrid environment Some other nice to have's: * SAP, BPC, OneSource (Income Tax & Provision), Google Suite, UiPath and Alteryx experience a plus The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $65,900.00 - $77,500.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
