Your Key Responsibilities

Stantec is seeking a manager for our Markham, ON geotechnical laboratory, which provides conventional and advanced field and laboratory testing services for soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage staff and other resources to perform laboratory testing.

  • Maintaining staff levels to meet workload demands.

  • Managing clients and projects, including communicating with internal and external clients regarding scope of services and schedule.

  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment, including nuclear density gauges.

  • Maintain laboratory certifications for CCIL and ISO.

  • Hire, train, and supervise laboratory technicians/technologists.

  • Coordinate with other Stantec laboratories to balance workload and share resources as needed.

  • Prepare proposals for laboratory and field services.

  • Perform quality control reviews of laboratory results, and issue final reports.

  • Promote safe work practices for all laboratory activities.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Having previous experience as a manager in a geotechnical/materials setting is preferred, but not required.

  • Current registration with OACETT and PEO and hold designation as C.Tech., C.E.T. or P.Eng.

  • Have experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures.

  • Experience with MTO (Ontario Ministry of Transportation) projects and associated laboratory testing procedures would be a strong asset.

  • CCIL Certification for soils, concrete would be and asset.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.

  • Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently.

Education and Experience

  • Hold a technician/technologist/engineering diploma from a recognized college or university.

  • Minimum 8 years’ prior experience in geotechnical laboratory.
