Your Key Responsibilities
Stantec is seeking a manager for our Markham, ON geotechnical laboratory, which provides conventional and advanced field and laboratory testing services for soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage staff and other resources to perform laboratory testing.
Maintaining staff levels to meet workload demands.
Managing clients and projects, including communicating with internal and external clients regarding scope of services and schedule.
Oversee maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment, including nuclear density gauges.
Maintain laboratory certifications for CCIL and ISO.
Hire, train, and supervise laboratory technicians/technologists.
Coordinate with other Stantec laboratories to balance workload and share resources as needed.
Prepare proposals for laboratory and field services.
Perform quality control reviews of laboratory results, and issue final reports.
Promote safe work practices for all laboratory activities.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Having previous experience as a manager in a geotechnical/materials setting is preferred, but not required.
Current registration with OACETT and PEO and hold designation as C.Tech., C.E.T. or P.Eng.
Have experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures.
Experience with MTO (Ontario Ministry of Transportation) projects and associated laboratory testing procedures would be a strong asset.
CCIL Certification for soils, concrete would be and asset.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently.
Education and Experience
Hold a technician/technologist/engineering diploma from a recognized college or university.
Minimum 8 years’ prior experience in geotechnical laboratory.
