POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director of the South Mountain YMCA, the Senior Director Sports and Wellness is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the management, development, supervision, evaluation and growth of the Youth Sports and Wellness programming at the South Mountain YMCA, East Orange YMCA, and Greater Bergen YMCA. The Senior Director Sports and Wellness Director will exercise sound judgment, problem solving and decision making skills when developing budgets, fundraising opportunities, policies, procedures, staff supervision, recruitment and training, day to day operations and more.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, implement and manage the operating plan to promote long-term involvement through a variety of exceptional programs and services that results in nurturing the potential in children (youth development), supporting members in their wellness journey (healthy living), and driving advocacy and community awareness (social responsibility).

  • Performs oversight of all programs and program areas for youth, adults and camp oversight as needed.

  • Ensures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas including meeting program standards and safety procedures.

  • Establishes new programs and expands current programs to meet the needs of the community and the goals and objectives of youth and adult sports programs in accordance with the strategic and operational plans.

  • Participates in a collaborative effort with leadership to determine goals, strategies, program innovation and improvements for the association.

  • Supervises, recruits, hires, trains, develops, evaluates, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.

  • Develops, manages and controls budget to ensure fiscal responsibility for the assigned programs.

  • Provides upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment. Ensures the physical environment supports healthy living through sanitation and cleaning efforts.

  • Ensures processes and policies are in place to maintain proper records/department files.

  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

  • Develops, implements systems and measurements that gauge program impact, satisfaction, quality trends, financial stability, and growth potential.

  • Facilitates relationships and schedules regular communication with YMCA branch leadership to discuss space usage, understand branch expectations and communicate program needs for a successful program.

  • Develops, represents and maintains relationships on behalf of the organization in a professional manner, including school districts and other organizations/agencies related to assigned programs.

  • Works with branch leadership to create and implement sports camps at all District branches.

  • Oversees sport camp implementation in all aspects including camp staff hiring, programming, etc.

  • Identify strategic collaborative partnerships that congruently align with the YMCA’s strategic priorities as needed.

  • Provides leadership for annual support campaign and committees as assigned. Candidates who cannot perform some or all of these duties because of disabilities will nevertheless receive full consideration for the job based on their ability to perform essential functions.

  • Responsible for administrative duties including but not limited to payroll, HR related documents, accidents reports, budget, etc.

  • Actively leads and participates in summer camp programs.

  • Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.

    DIRECT REPORTS:

    Youth Sports and Wellness – East Orange YMCA, Greater Bergen County YMCA, and South Mountain YMCA Sports and Wellness Staff.

    Budget Responsibility: $481,025

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of successful Youth Sports- Health and Wellness- Camp practices and quality program development.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.

  • Minimum of three years’ practical experience working with sports.

  • Financial and budget management. Fundraising experience a plus.

  • Strong problem solving and leadership skills

  • Strong computer skills

  • Effective oral and written communicate skills. Ability to communicate in various venues, i.e., public speaking, presentations

  • Ability to direct multi-site programs through supervision of staff, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.

  • Proven record of accomplishment of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.

  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred, or obtained within 36 months of hire.

  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.

  • Valid driver’s license and a vehicle for transportation.

    SALARY: $ 64,500 - $70,000/annual

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
