Fairview Health Services is seeking a Lead Certified Nurse Midwife for our St. John’s CNM group

Job Summary:

The Lead Certified Nurse Midwife is a member of the healthcare team who works in the independent management of women’s health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, and the family planning and gynecological needs of women. The Lead Certified Nurse Midwife practices within the Fairview health care system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral as indicated by the health status of the client. Certified Nurse Midwives practice in accordance with the Standards of the Practice of Nurse Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives.

As the Lead, this position is the accountable clinical leader of assigned clinical unit with day to day responsibility. Represents unit in pertinent internal and external meetings. Coordinates with site administrative team and Director of Nurse Midwives on related matters.

This position works closely with the Director of Nurse Midwives and the Certified Nurse Midwife team, assuring that systems and processes that support the patient and the clinical encounter and overall patient experience are performing at a high level of proficiency.

Jointly with other clinic providers and through Site and Network operating committees, ensures that community and FHMG standards/guidelines of medical practice are maintained. Actively promotes the provision of quality health care and excellent patient service, to implement and execute system strategies within appropriate clinic units.

Collaborates with all levels of leadership to ensure the execution of system service line strategies

FTE: Flexible based on CNM’s current clinical FTE

Lead Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with medical and operational leadership, is accountable for day to day operations of assigned clinical units to achieve performance targets / metrics

  • Coach, mentor and hold accountable all clinical staff within clinical midwifery unit

  • Support professional development of all staff in clinical unit

  • Monitors patient satisfaction and resolves patient complaints in collaboration with clinic administration and Director of Nurse Midwives.

  • Ensures CNM maintain appropriate medical competency and partake in continuing medical education

  • Provide input to med staff development plans for FHMG and actively participate in recruitment, orientation, and retention of CNM staff.

  • Ensures site participation, reporting and resolution occurs consistent with FHMG professional and peer review process

  • Provides input into performance feedback of management

  • Supports the development implementation and evaluation of care system quality improvement initiatives for FHMG

  • Serves as a role model and sets a positive example. Leads in a manner that promotes continuous quality improvement and Fairview values. Attend leadership development courses and seminars

  • Assist senior leaders in execution of FHMG and Fairview strategies and tactics at level of clinical units

  • Actively participate in governance and operational committees and councils as requested

  • Proactively participates in strategic and operational planning, including site development, expansion, acquisition and marketing

  • In conjunction with FHMG management, is jointly accountable for operational performance of site(s)

  • Assists in optimizing utilization of professional staff and facility capacity in balance with patient demand and satisfaction

  • Encourages utilization of Fairview care system whenever and wherever appropriate. Address opportunities to improve care system performance

Community Information

The M Health Fairview Midwives provide lifelong care for people including pregnancy, birth, lactation and beyond. Our midwifery practice is also very involved in the community – we provide information at health fairs, reach out to local schools, provide community based childbirth education and lactation support. We support the growth of midwifery through our involvement with the MN affiliate of ACNM and by serving as a clinical rotation site for nurse-midwifery education programs.

Qualifications

Required:

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and ACNM accredited nurse midwife educational program.

License/Certification/Registration

  • Current MN RN license, Certified through American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM). Current DEA registration.

Preferred:

Education

  • MS in Nursing.

Experience

  • One to three years of clinical practice experience.
