This position exists to support the facility, research, and testing labs within the Office of Materials and Road Research Lab as needed. Responsibilities include the operation of the heating and cooling plants, all HVAC, ventilation equipment and pumps. Position involves general maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds including doors, locks, minor electrical, lighting, plumbing and other duties as assigned. This position also involves basic machinist work using various milling machines, metal lathes, and automated band saws for preparing samples to be tested by other Lab personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Boiler License 2-C or higher with Dept of Labor and Industry.

  • Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment.

  • Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings.

  • Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to perform the work safely and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in building maintenance operations such as carpentry, painting, and electrical, plumbing and general mechanics.
