Study Group EAP/ English for Academic Purposes Tutor in Manama, Bahrain

Contract type: Full Time, fixed term 12 month contract

As the sole pathway provider for the Bahrain campus of one of our university partners, from September 2024 we will be teaching and supporting students of undergraduate foundation programmes.

 

An excellent opportunity has come up for an English tutor to join the Study Group team at our International Study Centre in Bahrain. The ideal candidate should be an energetic, committed, and passionate tutor, with exceptional communication skills and a true passion for providing transformational learning experiences. Reporting to the Head of English you will be responsible for the delivery and development of English modules for undergraduate and Pre-Master’s level teaching.

This is an on-site teaching position, and all tutors are required to teach in person

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by the International Study Centre.

  • Prepare and deliver teaching on Face-to-Face and or Online/Blended programmes including synchronous and asynchronous input for weekly tasks, live input, seminars/ tutorial sessions and drop-ins with a normal teaching load up to 25 hours per week.

  • Mark students’ formative and summative assessment submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including during one to one tutorials/ Learning Conversations and through regular student reports (usually RPAGs).

  • Writing additional reports for sponsored students if and when required.

  • Support Head of English in designing, developing, updating and distributing course material for modules and teaching sessions as/if required.

  • Develop and maintain module VLE pages for Standard Delivery, Blended Delivery and Online Delivery as required.

  • Work with the Centre’s administration team in the delivery of induction, orientation and registration programmes.

  • Notify and liaise with colleagues, where necessary, to ensure all students receive appropriate on-going welfare and progression support.

  • Track students’ academic journey, and identify and implement appropriate intervention strategies to support on-going learning.

  • Act as a Personal Tutor/ Learning Development tutor/ Skills for Success tutor for one or more groups of students if required.

  • Take part in bi-termly Learning conversations with students offering progression and engagement guidance and support.

  • Follow centre protocol and liaise with colleagues and line manager according to procedure in particular regarding compliance processes such as class timetabling, attendance and engagement monitoring.

ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related subject area.

  • Relevant Teaching Qualification: TEFL-I/ TEFLQ status such as CELTA/DELTA/Trinity Dip or equivalent, and/or MA in TESOL/TEFL/Linguistics.

  • A Postgraduate degree in a related subject area (desirable)
