Verisk Analyst, European Power Research in Madrid, Spain

We are looking for an Analyst to join Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables Research team, with a focus on European power market fundamentals analysis. The Power and Renewables Research Team forms part of our Energy Transition Practice and is a highly respected group of analysts producing market-leading research on major power markets round the world and the entire renewable energy value chain, covering solar PV, onshore and offshore wind and energy storage, as well as broader energy transition themes and emerging technologies such as hydrogen and carbon capture and storage. Our cutting-edge knowledge of power market dynamics further strengthens Wood Mackenzie's offerings in the market during this rapidly changing time in the energy sector. You will be responsible for European power market analysis using advanced simulation models, forecasting changes in the power supply mix, market interactions, electricity prices and asset values. Key responsibilities include: Power dispatch modelling * Maintaining, developing and running power dispatch models. * Co-ordinate data gathering and analysis activities. Ensure that key data flows, including those to other research groups (such as commodity research teams focussed on gas, coal or oil) meet agreed specifications on quality, content and timeliness. * Interpret model outputs to produce considered and insightful power markets analysis. Regional power markets * Develop relevant and compelling analysis of the fundamental drivers, sensitivities and key uncertainty factors across European power markets. * Present our analysis to clients across a range of mediums, including written reports, data tools, presentations and webinars. * Engage with prospective clients, the media and other industry figures to promote our Power and Renewables offerings. Emerging industry trends, technologies and policy * * Ensure that our market outlooks provide considered and well-founded analysis of industry trends, policy and, where appropriate, disruptive influences. Incorporate Wood Mackenzie’s extensive work on solar, wind, energy storage and other grid-edge technologies into our European markets research. Work closely with subject matter experts in these fields (and others, such as EVs) to contribute to the delivery and improvement of the broad suite of Wood Mackenzie’s power and renewables research ·Power plant economics and valuations (conventional and renewable technologies)* * Model the costs of different generation technologies and the influences/uncertainties relating to specific sources and markets Supporting Commercial Growth * Provide modelling input and sector/market insight to support growth of our European power offering. * Provide support to consulting team with the scoping out of proposals and execution of consulting mandates. * Act as subject matter expert and trusted adviser to our clients and colleagues across our research and consulting businesses You have strong modelling skills and ideally experience in running detailed power dispatch models from a utility, consultant or other industry player. You have a strong understanding of data sources used to support models and are experienced in deploying quality control measures when using such data. Strong knowledge of power market fundamentals is also crucial – detailed knowledge of major national power markets in Europe is a distinct advantage. You have excellent communication skills (written and verbal), an analytical mindset and you’re a strong team player.
