Shopbop.com is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the Corporate Controller, and the Accounting and Finance teams. This position will be responsible for delivering, reviewing and posting month end close entries into the general ledger and drive the month-end close process to consolidate results into Amazon central accounting. This position requires a strong background in GAAP accounting and will help drive Shopbop's accounting policies in alignment with Amazon. This position will report directly to Shopbop's Corporate Controller to ensure optimal results. The right candidate will also assist in identifying and implementing process improvements across all of Finance and Accounting. The Senior Accountant must be familiar with GAAP, Accounting processes and the software supporting them.

Key job responsibilities

• Prepare month-end general ledger journal entries, fully supported balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis to ensure accurate expense recognition and reporting accruals.

• Record revenue recognition and inventory related journal entries, as well as required accruals and intercompany transactions in accordance with GAAP guidelines.

• Own daily and monthly inventory accounting, controls monitoring and analysis.

• Own Sarbanes-Oxley control implementation and testing, as well as SOX deliverables (controls certifications, financial operations metrics, ledger to ledger reconciliations, etc.)

• Support the filing of monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns as well as all annual tax and 1099 reporting requirements.

• Support all financial and sales & use tax audits.

• Auditing and reporting of departmental financial results to ensure controllership over spend.

• Provide technical and functional support to process improvements, including system and business integrations and automation initiatives.

• Field and respond to parent company information requests in a timely and accurate manner.

• Provide recommendations for process improvements to the accounting and reporting process.

• Assist in other miscellaneous Accounting and Finance processes, procedures, reporting and analytical deep dives as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

  • 3+ years of Fortune 500 operational accounting experience

  • A work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations

  • Strong internal customer focus and attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

  • Bias for action and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

  • Resilience analyzing large data sets. Skilled in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SOX methodology and associated standards (sections 302, 404, AS5, PCAOB, etc.)

  • Great Plains software experience

  • SQL knowledge with the ability to write queries to extract data multiple data sources

  • CPA certified or candidate
