JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Water Microbiology Department within the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) is currently recruiting a Microbiologist I or Microbiologist II. WSLH is part of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health within the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the state\'s public, environmental and occupational health laboratory. Founded in 1903, WSLH has a rich history in protecting and advancing the public health of Wisconsin\'s people and environment while also embodying the Wisconsin Idea. This position will work with a team of microbiologists performing microbiological analyses of drinking water, as well as water from lakes, streams and river samples to benefit water quality and protect public health. The analyst will independently perform routine and specialized microbiological analyses, interpret and report results, review quality control procedures and testing to assure accuracy of analytical results, and assist in developing and implementing microbiological methods. Routine analyses for the Safe Drinking Water Act and Clean Water Act include testing for total coliform/E. coli and enterococci by enzymatic method, culture techniques, microscopic methods and MALDI. This role requires that the employee aseptically handle water samples following established procedures, enter data using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and perform quality control and assurance functions to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and accrediting agencies. This position resides within the Environmental Health Division of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) and is located at 2601 Agriculture Drive, Madison, WI 53718. Primary work hours are generally 8:00 A.M. to 4:45 P.M., Monday through Friday but start and end times can be flexible. There will be weekend and possible holiday work on a rotational basis with the weekend/holiday work comprising of approximately 2-3 hours one Saturday every 4-6 weeks.
