JOB REQUIREMENTS: Boardman Clark seeks a Legal Assistant; focusing on work within the practice groups: Banking, Business, and Labor & Employment. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for carrying out administrative services and providing support to firm litigators and transactional attorneys. Duties/Responsibilities Draft, proofread, format and edit contracts, loan documents, conveyances, and related documents; experience with pleadings, discovery responses, correspondence, and other legal documents is preferred. Provide administrative support to attorneys. File pleadings in state and federal courts. Open new matters and initiate conflict checks. Organize and maintain filings (including electronic filing) and files. Assist timekeepers with tracking deadlines and organizing projects. Enter timekeepers\' time entries. Type from rough draft, handwritten materials and/or dictation into proper format. Schedule and calendar appointments and meetings; make travel arrangements and complete expense reports. Serve as back-up to other assistants throughout the firm on an as needed basis to cover absences and workload needs. Perform other tasks as assigned, including sharing in additional administrative duties. Boardman Clark is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Prepare affidavits or other documents, such as legal correspondence, and organize and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing system. Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, contracts, and real estate closing statements. Investigate facts and law of cases and search pertinent sources, such as public records and internet sources, to determine causes of action and to prepare cases. File pleadings with court clerk. Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents. Direct and coordinate law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas. Appraise and inventory real and personal property for estate planning. Arbitrate disputes between parties and assist in the real estate closing process, such as by reviewing title searches. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications 2-3 years\' experience as a legal assistant preferred Strong skills in word processing and computer use; proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat. Extensive experience filing documents with state and federal courts. Ability to read and understand court rules, ensure compliance with court rules and assigned judge\'s individual rules and practices. High attention to detail and sensitivity to confidential materials Ability to work independently and anticipate needed tasks to complete projects Able and willing to learn new electronic programs Excellent grammar, proofreading and organizational skills Strong communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to work in a fast-paced environment High school diploma required. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
