Robert Half Lead Network Engineer in Madison, Wisconsin

Description

Robert Half is seeing a Lead Network Engineer for our client located in Madison, WI. In this role, you will be taking charge of upgrades, installation, operations, and maintenance of their network and network related technologies.

This is a Permanent Hire role that will require a hybrid work schedule in Madison.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts in designing, implementing, configuring, and resolving issues within network infrastructure.

  • Effectively manage and coordinate all aspects of telecommunications system installations.

  • Develop and enforce strategies for hardware maintenance and replacement planning.

  • Provide comprehensive support for client/server-based network application environments.

  • Regularly monitor network hardware and systems to ensure optimal performance in alignment with organizational standards.

  • Diagnose and resolve advanced technical issues escalated from the service desk, ensuring swift resolution.

  • Conduct research and recommend new tools, technologies, and best practices related to networking.

  • Collaborate with external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve complex network challenges.

  • Oversee the management of load balancing for systems, including DNS, DHCP, and IP configurations.

  • Administer and support remote access environments, such as VPNs and terminal services.

  • Maintain detailed documentation of network issues and their resolutions for reference and continuous improvement.

  • Create and review network documentation, ensuring logs comply with organizational requirements.

  • Work closely with cybersecurity teams to enforce and uphold robust network security protocols.

  • Perform additional tasks, as required, to support the organization’s networking needs.

    Requirements

Required Skills

  • Must have prior experience as a network engineer, and leading network projects.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of TCP/IP and networking protocols.

  • Deep understanding of routing protocols, including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, along with experience in MPLS and Internet load balancing.

  • Proficiency in configuring and managing advanced firewall technologies.

  • Experience working with SD-WAN solutions and secure network infrastructures.

  • Strong command of network operating systems, including detailed configuration and optimization knowledge.

  • Solid grasp of Layer 2 networking concepts, such as STP, VLANs, virtual port channels, and aggregation technologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of Layer 3 networking concepts, including dynamic routing and redundancy protocols like HSRP, VRRP, GLBP, and SVI.

  • Familiarity with identity-based security solutions and advanced threat protection systems.

  • Hands-on experience with wireless networking and authentication protocols such as Radius.

  • Expertise in load balancing, content switching, and application delivery infrastructures.

  • Robust skills in directory service administration and management.

  • Strong abilities in project management, with a focus on organizing and executing complex systems projects.

  • Self-driven with excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking skills.

  • Exceptional communication abilities paired with outstanding customer service aptitude.

  • Demonstrated commitment to staying updated on network technologies utilized in enterprise environments.

  • A proactive mindset toward continuous improvement, innovation, and contributing positively to organizational objectives.

Education

  • Advanced certifications in networking, such as professional-level credentials.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.

  • Or equivalent experience.
