WiCell is looking for a capable and dedicated Cytogenetics Technologist to join our team. We use standard cytogenetic techniques to aid in the characterization of human pluripotent stem cells. We offer g-banded chromosome analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), short tandem repeat (STR) analysis, SNP microarray, and other testing to stem cell researchers around the world.

The Cytogenetics Technologist will perform a variety of laboratory techniques including stem cell culture, metaphase harvest, slide preparation and banding, G-band and FISH analysis, case review, and report drafting. This position is located on-site in Madison, Wisconsin.
Cytogenetic Technologist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Analysis of G-banded chromosomes
Analysis of FISH preparations
Review, interpretation, and reporting of complex and routine test results
Culture of pluripotent cells in a sterile environment
Running Cytogenetic Laboratory Protocols
Setup of molecular experiments
Analysis of molecular data (FISH, Microarray)
Operation of imaging equipment
Development of new protocols and/or assays
Reviewing and revising version controlled documents
Accessioning of samples
Communication with clients in a professional manner regarding results and technical questions
Time management to accomplish established priorities
Delivering complete accuracy throughout all steps of the analysis
Occasional weekend or holiday harvest and culture coverage
Basic Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or related science (BS or BA)
Minimum of two years of laboratory experience
Experience in the analysis of G-banded chromosome preparations
Ability to interpret results using ISCN
Skill in sterile culture technique
The ideal candidate would possess:
American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification in Cytogenetics or eligibility to take the certification exam
Knowledge in the following assays: microarray, FISH, nucleic acid extraction
Experience in culturing human pluripotent stem cells
Multi-species karyotype experience
A high degree of accuracy, reliability, and responsibility
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with others in a laboratory setting
Familiarity with Applied Spectral Imaging software
