Norton King's Daughters' Health Health Information Management Technician (HIM Tech) in Madison, Indiana

Health Information Management Tech performs a variety of duties within the HIM Dept associated with collecting, assessing, and processing medical record documentation in different forms. This position contributes to overall patient safety, revenue cycle management and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following

  • Retrieve, analyze, process, and store medical records in both paper and electronic format Customer Service at our front desk including answering phones and working with walk-ins Provide support to users of the Patient Portal for our electronic medical record Release of Information for legal, insurance, and other purposes. Providing requested medical records to other healthcare providers for continuity of care Provide support to providers in need of assistance with record completion Other duties as assigned This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. High school graduate General computer proficiency as well as data entry accuracy. Knowledge of PCs/computer systems and other office equipment. Prefer to have knowledge of electronic medical records and related medical record documents. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to quickly learn new software applications and workflows. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills. Maintain confidentiality according to hospital policy and HIPAA regulations. Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with public, hospital staff, and physicians/providers in a polite businesslike manner using AIDET. Prompt and courteous reception and assistance to visitors and callers. Ability to communicate clearly and pleasantly on the telephone. Ability to stoop, lift, climb to file and retrieve records. Good visual and aural acuity. Ability to concentrate in a noisy environment.

Desired: HIM experience, Associate Degree, Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
