What you will do

As a technical leader within our Special Vehicle Development (SVD) Team, you will play a critical role in designing and delivering advanced mechanical solutions for our next-generation heavy-duty trucks. Your work will directly impact specialized vehicle performance, durability, and compliance across diverse applications. In this role, you will:

  • Design mechanical systems and components that meet complex functional, geometric, stylistic, cost, quality, and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead and support mechanical engineering activities across your area of expertise.

  • Take active ownership of the delivery process, ensuring integration of cross-functional inputs and system readiness.

  • Align design work with broader business objectives, ensuring solutions contribute to company targets.

  • Contribute to the development of product and system roadmaps, helping to shape the future of our special vehicle offerings.

  • Build and maintain strong networks within the organization and with external partners.

  • Drive innovation and support business development initiatives that unlock new value in the heavy-duty and special vehicles space.

  • Lead the development of specialized vehicle solutions, balancing technical excellence with product strategy.

Your future team

Our team, Special Vehicle Development (SVD), is an Engineering and Project Management department within Volvo Group Trucks Technology’s Vehicle Engineering function.  We support business development of our brands on a local basis by providing suitable engineering support for vehicle customization and low volumes niche vehicles development.  

Our mission includes satisfying the needs of our customers while meeting quality requirements, time to market, features, and cost targets at complete vehicle level.

We achieve this by:

  •     Focusing actions and projects to fill customers’ demands

  •     Providing solutions to complex tenders and support unique brand offer

  •     Installing alternative driveline and fuel economy solutions

Who are you?

You are a mechanical engineering professional with a strong track record in the commercial vehicle or heavy-duty truck industry. Your deep understanding of mechanical systems, strategic thinking, and ability to lead across functions make you a go-to expert for complex development challenges.

In this role, you will bring:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design and product development, ideally within heavy-duty vehicles or specialized truck applications.

  • Proven expertise in driving complex engineering projects from concept through production.

  • Ability to mentor, coach, and guide colleagues across disciplines and experience levels.

  • A T-shaped profile—either with deep specialization in a mechanical domain or as a highly capable generalist.

  • Ability to gain the trust of others through building a reputation as a subject matter expert and trusted technical advisor across the organization.

  • Experience contributing to and shaping roadmaps and strategies aligned with evolving industry demands.

  • Strategic thinking and the ability to link technical work to business goals and long-term product value.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a passion for cross-functional teamwork and innovation.
