    Position description

The Department of Biological Chemistry is recruiting for a Project Scientist position in Professor Vallim’s laboratory.

This position is intended for collaborative research working on bile acid metabolism and liver organelle biology. The Vallim lab has pioneered the detection of bile acids in sub-cellular fractions and organelles and the use of AAV-CRISPR/Cas9 to target bile acid enzymes in vivo.

Job responsibilities include supporting the PI in the design and execution of funded projects, including preparation of sub-cellular organelle fractions, bile acid extracts, and conducting CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing studies using animal models. Responsibilities also include assisting the PI in study design, day-to-day tasks related to project management, data analysis, manuscript preparation and submission, and supervising graduate/undergraduate students/junior postdoctoral fellows working in this group.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. in Biosciences, Biochemistry or a closely related field of study.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Experience in liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, bile acid extraction, organelle fractionation, bioinformatic analysis of RNA sequencing and pre-clinical animal study.
