Cedars-Sinai Lead Radiation Therapist - 10-Hour Day Shift in Los Angeles, California

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist, the Lead Radiation Therapist is a proficient and experienced Allied Health Professional who performs simulations and administers radiation treatments as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist, under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist. The Lead Radiation Therapist possess in depth knowledge of all aspects of Radiation Therapy. The Lead Radiation Therapist serves as a resource for all Radiation Therapist staff members at assigned site.

  • Performs accurate and efficient radiation therapy treatment simulations as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. This includes proper use of simulator, fabrication of immobilization devices and various treatment devices such as bite block and custom bolus cut outs.

  • Delivers accurate, efficient, and reproductible radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist and as indicated in the treatment plan. This includes operation of linear accelerator, verifying treatment plan prior to treatment, proper patient positioning, and monitoring of patient during procedure. Monitors the technical accuracy of treatment setups by Radiation Therapists and Senior Radiation Therapists.

  • Utilizes imaging technologies for the purpose of simulation, treatment planning, and treatment delivery as prescribed by a radiation oncologist.

  • Performs appropriate and timely documentation of patients, including daily assessment and pain level, simulation and treatment summaries, report and documentations.

  • Observes patients for physical, emotional changes, side effects, and nutrition needs. Refers patients to medical or nursing staff for appropriate interventions.

  • Responsible for medical equipment maintenance and performance and oversees daily warm-up procedures and quality assurance at assigned site. Trouble shoots issues and reports problems to Chief Therapist/Physics.

  • Performs all special treatment procedures available at assigned site, such as Stereo tactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Brachytherapy.

  • Serves as point of contact for all Radiation Therapy questions and issues at assigned site, including questions around treatment protocols, quality assurance, staffing schedules, patient schedules, and equipment issues. Ensures that Senior Therapists complete all responsibilities. Covers Chief Radiation Therapist when needed. Meets with Chief Therapist for daily huddle to report workflow concern

  • Responsible for overall treatment schedule at assigned site. Ensures that patient volume is appropriately distributed between treatment machines to ensure efficient treatment hours and staffing. Coordinates staffing for assigned site, and ensures that staffing requirements for each patient treatment are met and that work schedules meet the minimum therapists scheduled for each patient. Moves therapist assignments as needed to account for absences and reduce overtime.

  • Maintains knowledge of billing and coding guidelines for Radiation Oncology technical billing. Establishes and maintains quality monitoring of accurate and complete billing documentation for technical services provided by the therapists at assigned site. Corrects billing errors in a timely manner and assures employees are trained in appropriate billing procedures.

  • Trains new staff on department competencies, protocols, and procedures; develops new competencies; and trains staff when new equipment or procedures are implemented and ensures annual competencies are completed. Provides performance feedback to Chief Radiation Therapist and/or Department Manager and leads recruitment/interview process at assigned site. Participates in educational seminars, conferences, and/or professional societies.

  • Responsible for the purchasing and inventory control for supplies and materials used by the therapy group ensuring appropriate inventory levels are maintained for patient care.

  • Leads Radiation Therapy quality improvement efforts and participates in department quality improvement efforts, including Chart Rounds. Develops and implements new processes and procedures as needed.

  • Provides clinical specific communication to the Radiation Therapy staff at assigned site, and updates Chief Radiation Therapist/Director with key items and clinical concerns. Acts as liaison to external departments and to other disciplines within the Radiation Oncology Department. Participates in staff/department meetings on behalf of the Chief Radiation Therapist.

  • Ensures with The Joint Commission and regulatory readiness within the department. Adheres to strict radiation safety guidelines

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved Radiation Therapy program required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy preferred

License/Certifications:

  • California Therapeutic Radiation Technologist Certification required

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technology Certification required

  • BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required

  • California Fluoroscopy permit preferred

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist required

  • 10 years of experience preferred
