Para Los Ninos College Success Coordinator in Los Angeles, California

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Youth Workforce Services, or as assigned, the College Success Coordinator will lead college and other post-high school initiatives, with a focus on college transition, college persistence and degree completion. The College Success Coordinator supports students enrolled or transitioning to colleges/universities and other post high school programs. In addition, the College Success Coordinator will provide support by streamlining collaboration and communication across the College Access and College Success Teams.

This a grant funded opportunity with an end date of 10/31/2024.

Duties

  • Coordinate events, including but not limited to, college tours, college transition activities, family and community engagement opportunities, etc.
  • Coordinate and lead in-person and/or virtual events for high school students and alumni including panels, mixers, college fieldtrips, career related events and educational related experiential activities.
  • Collaborate with the PLN College Access and Success team to develop and implement a peer-to-peer support network, connecting alumni and incoming college students.
  • Maintain participant contact information and update regularly.
  • Maintain participant engagement through email, LinkedIn, social media, and other platforms.
  • Develop and sustain communication strategies that keep students informed of program activities and opportunities.
  • Participate in virtual and in-person events in the field of college access and success, post-high school programs, leadership development and other areas to share findings and resources with staff.
  • Report and communicate with the Director on implementation of goals, strategy, programming, outcomes, and challenges.
  • Collaborate with relevant agency-wide staff in sustaining systems of communication for both College Access and College Success (e.g., social media, email, etc.).
  • Represent the department at events, conferences, and other public events.
  • Strengthen relationships with youth, families, schools and partners.
  • Develop and execute engaging programming to promote the transition, success, retention, career readiness and sense of belonging of participants.
  • Utilize data to create and manage a participant email distribution list.
  • Maintain a log of youth interests to intentionally promote educational, career readiness and professional development opportunities for participants (e.g., internships, conferences, employment).
  • Stay updated on current practices and trends in post-high school and higher education that impact student retention, persistence, and completion.
  • Collect and submit data and reports.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Passionate about increasing the college success of and college degree completion rate for first-generation, low-income students.
  • Experience working with students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds and knowledgeable about the first-generation college student experience.
  • 3 + years experience in advising, tracking, and monitoring academic progress, career interest, and developing academic plans for college students.
  • Knowledgeable about high school and college campus resources and retention initiatives (e.g., career center, EOP, financial aid, counseling services, academic advising).
  • Knowledgeable of current college and financial aid application processes.
  • Knowledgeable about current research, trends, and evaluation tools related to college access, college success, college student development, and retention in higher education.
  • Experience facilitating large group meetings and/or conferences on Zoom (or related platforms) and/or in person.
  • Strong written, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Flexible hours/evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel or attend external events (conferences, campus visits, events, etc.).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree in counseling or related field preferred.
  • Successfully pass all post offer, pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background check, drug test and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

  • Approximately 50% of time is spent sitting, while frequently required to walk, stand and bend.
