Los Alamos National Laboratory Post-Masters in Theoretical and Computational Mechanics of Materials in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Solid Mechanics team, within T-3 group of the Theoretical Division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), is seeking a highly motivated and productive Post Masters student to accomplish advancements in theoretical constitutive modeling and mesoscale computational modeling for interpretation of elastic/acoustic properties of a range of materials accounting for the crystallography, microstructure and the defects.

You will learn to skillfully use a Lagrangian method, develop high-performance mesoscale simulations incorporating anisotropic constitutive models, quantify and make inferences on the averaged acoustic/elastic properties of polycrystalline microstructures, and develop the ability of models in reproducing and interpreting the elastic/acoustic measurements on a range of materials. You will be responsible for demonstrating credible simulation results-numerically accurate and comparable with experimental datasets. You will develop and apply (a) pre-processing techniques for generating statistically meaningful material microstructures, which may include image analysis of data, and (b) post-processing using statistical analysis techniques, in addition to instructional visualizations of simulated data.

Engage in weekly communication of accomplishments with the primary mentor, contribute know-how in technical discussions, fulfill technical goals, and satisfy required deliverables, such as codes, models and know-how in the form of LANL reports, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and software. Follow LANL safety and security procedures.
