Los Alamos National Laboratory Operational Assurance Specialist 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Operations Assurance Specialist (OAS) will assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of processes, procedures, and applications contributing to the overall objective of maintaining an effective industrial safety and hygiene (ISH) operational assurance program. The OAS will have a key role in developing data analytics, training materials, such as systems to approach training (SAT) documents, on-the-job (OJT) training documents, and other documents in support of ISH programs. Additionally, they will be responsible for scheduling sampling events.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated skill in developing and implementing procedures and processes related to specific assignment area for occurrence reporting and investigation, causal factors determinations, trending and analysis, lessons learned, and/or process improvement activities.

  • Responsible and accountable for appropriate actions and decision-making within assignments and must be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently and independently.

  • Demonstrated experience collecting and analyzing customer feedback data and conducts continuous operational assurance improvement activities.

  • Complies with applicable facility integrated work documents (IWDs).

  • Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment.

  • Demonstrated skill in the preparation and presentation of operational assurance reports.

  • Advanced knowledge of the Laboratory's occupational safety and health policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related technical experience and project management experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with ISH operational assurance activities including, but not necessarily limited to, conducting occurrence reporting and investigation, providing thorough and accurate documentation of technical and/or statistical analyses, and developing and disseminating ISH lessons learned products.

  • Advanced knowledge of and experience within ISH regulations, plans, and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience and skill in conducting ISH research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting operational assurance.

  • Advanced skills to conceptualize and communicate major elements of ISH operational assurance to both technical and non- technical personnel.

  • Advanced skills in the preparation and presentation of ISH operational assurance reports.

  • Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting ISH operational assurance.

  • Advanced skill in collecting and analyzing customer feedback data and conducts continuous ISH improvement activities.

  • Advanced knowledge of common and unique work hazards, occupational safety practices, operating configuration, and other ISH policies and procedures.

  • Successfully demonstrated experience in interacting effectively with all levels of internal and/or external personnel; building trust and gaining consensus.

  • Qualified as a Training Staff Qualification Program (TSQP) Classroom Instructor and OJT Instructor/Evaluator.

  • Experience in developing ISH training materials.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
