Los Alamos National Laboratory Monte Carlo Radiation Transport Internship in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Come work with one of the world's leading Monte Carlo radiation transport research groups. The Monte Carlo Codes group, XCP-3, is seeking graduate students for a challenging and rewarding internship. XCP-3 has opportunities for paid summer and year-round internships for graduate students interested in computational physics. You will be provided a mentor, a challenging project, and the opportunity to present your work to your co-workers and at scientific conferences.

XCP-3 provides the Monte Carlo particle transport capability needed to accurately predict the interaction of radiation with matter. We are the developers of the widely used MCNP (https://mcnp.lanl.gov/) ® (Monte Carlo N-Particle) simulation software as well as the Monte Carlo Application Toolkit (MCATK).

Our work supports a variety of Laboratory missions, including stockpile stewardship, nonproliferation, threat reduction, and energy and environmental sciences. We deliver technology, methods, production quality codes, and training to sponsors, primarily U.S. federal agencies, through research, development, and maintenance of high-quality software and documentation. Our predictive capability is the nation's foremost predictive tool for nuclear criticality safety simulations and plays a central role in tying nuclear weapon simulations to the nuclear test database.
