Aerotek Quality Inspector I in Los Alamitos, California

QUALITY INSPECTOR NEEDED!!

Job Description

As a Quality Inspector I, you will perform in-process and final inspections of products used in airframe and missile manufacturing. You will analyze engineering blueprints, process specifications, shop travelers, and manufacturing planning documents to determine the nature and extent of inspection requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the most practical inspection method and technique; plan sequence of operations; select precision measuring instruments and equipment to dimensionally inspect units.

  • Perform surface table inspections using standard positioning, measuring, and layout instruments and equipment. Utilize shop mathematics, decimals, and fractions in the performance of the work.

  • Conduct first article, receiving inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection assignments; visually and dimensionally inspect a wide variety of airframe parts and aerospace assemblies/components.

  • Witness first piece part production and certify acceptability; observe and perform in-process inspection during component build-up and sub-assembly stages; perform final assembly inspection and observe testing operations to assure quality, workmanship, and strict compliance with specifications and standards.

  • Inspect incoming metallic and fiber materials, plastic and rubber compounds for correct formulation call-out, serialization, identification, cure date, and shelf life; verify vendor and material certifications; check heat codes, batch, and lot numbers to assure product traceability; certify the proper mixing and blending of bonding agents and adhesives.

  • Inspect reinforced plastic and rubber products for delamination, blisters, porosity, bond, elasticity, gauge surface smoothness, and similar defects or characteristics.

  • Check configuration and part dimensions with or without the aid of assembly check gauges, fixtures, and tooling.

  • Monitor oven and cure processes and record temperature readings and dwell time; perform or observe pressurization and leak tests using plant air, nitrogen, and helium.

  • Prepare rework tags, inspection reports, and documentation.

  • Coordinate rejection with MRB, engineering, and customer representatives for depositions and process refinement.

  • Assemble end item documentation for the review and acceptance of finished products.

  • Compile and maintain history files, records, and reports.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of related Quality Control inspection experience, including interface with customer source representatives, government sources, internal departments, and personnel.

  • Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings and blueprints.

  • Proficiency in the use of basic inspection tools, calipers, scales, height gauges, optical aids, micrometers, and GD&T.

  • Experience working in an AS9100 production environment.

  • Experience with production processes such as assembly, forming, tooling, welding (fusion & resistance), heat treating, and cleaning.

  • Knowledge of metallic materials such as stainless steel, nickel, titanium, and aluminum.

  • Experience with composite materials and production processes such as elastomers, resins, and composite reinforcement material.

  • Familiarity with AS9102 standards and software, and military specifications.

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate, complete documentation.

  • Problem-solving skills including root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Proficiency with the use of the Internet, MS Word, and Outlook.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School degree or GED required. An AA or trade school degree is preferred.

  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector preferred.

  • Experience using Net-Inspect standards and software preferred.

You will be working in a large manufacturing aerospace company with around 500 employees. The company is a world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of ducting systems for aircraft and propulsion lines for rockets. The work environment involves high and low-pressure metallic ducting systems and rocket propulsion lines for NASA and the U.S. space launch system industry. The facility is equipped with advanced technology and provides a professional setting for quality inspection work.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $58240.00/yr.
