Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Tool & Die Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated 1st Shift Tool & Die Group Leader.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead, train, and supervise a group of Toyota Auto Body California (TABC) Team Members responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining high-volume stamping dies. Troubleshooting line-side die issues and completing repairs on the production line.

Reporting to the Stamping & T&D Manager, the person in this role will support TABC’s Manufacturing objective to provide exceptional support to our customers Utilizing the Toyota Way and TABC's "Can-do" spirit to profitably provide parts and services to successfully respond to our customers’ expectations, in a rapidly changing mobility marketplace.

The person in this role will support the Stamping department’s objective to achieve daily manufacturing Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets - While maintaining our values: Safety-first culture, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, Respect for people and teamwork, Kaizen spirit and continuous improvement, corporate citizenship and community involvement.

This position is located at TABC in Long Beach, CA and required 5 days/week on site.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing TABC Department Key Performance Indicators: Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost, Human Resources and Development

  • Participate in assigned Hoshin (annual plan) activities

  • Support functional/operations management responsibilities including kaizen and standardization activities to support KPI achievement.

  • Leading monthly department safety meetings

  • Coordinating scheduled and unscheduled stamping die maintenance

  • Estimating die repair time

  • Coaching Team Members through repairs

  • Confirming Team Member’s work

  • Managing Maximo Work Orders

  • Developing & managing a die chroming schedule

  • Developing short-term and long-term countermeasures

  • Prioritizing repairs

  • Team member development

  • Team Member overtime equalization

  • Managing satellite stores

  • Vacation scheduling

  • Daily Meetings with Team Members

  • Support new business studies and project manage new department business

What you bring

  • Management experience with responsibility for direct reports in a manufacturing, engineering or maintenance environment

  • Industrial maintenance experience, such as preventative die maintenance / die repairs

  • Experience building and/or maintaining high-volume stamping dies such as welding experience, spotting experience, and hand finishing skills

  • Experience with cutting and forming sheet metal in a mass-production manufacturing environment

  • Machining experience, including troubleshooting and problem solving

  • Experience with documentation of work performed and presenting out to leadership, including Excel, PowerPoint, or similar

Added bonus if you have

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher

  • Automotive manufacturing or engineering experience

  • Electrical experience such as wiring and equipment hook-up

  • Collective Bargaining Experience

  • Stamping die process creation experience

  • Experience analyzing data from contact and non-contact measurement systems

  • CNC experience

  • AutoCAD / CATIA experience

  • Shop floor stamping experience
