We are seeking a skilled GIS Technician to join our team on a long-term contract basis, initially for twelve months with the possibility of extension based on workload. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in connecting real-world field data with our internal systems, providing essential data for engineering, design, and construction projects related to overhead, underground, substation, or natural gas systems. The position involves mapping and data input for remediation construction work, ensuring that sites are restored to their original state post-completion.
Responsibilities
Utilize ESRI or ArcGIS software to map work sites and update project statuses.
Interpret and input natural gas and electric engineering work orders into an Enterprise GIS Database.
Maintain and improve existing data within the Enterprise CAD and GIS systems.
Collaborate with the Land Base Support Department to input land base work from gas, electric order data, or legal descriptions into an Enterprise GIS System.
Support data maintenance and cleanup activities in the Enterprise CAD System.
Interpret as-built information from the field and initiate work orders using Microstation CAD software.
Travel to project sites as required, approximately 10-15% of the time, with mileage reimbursable.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in GIS software, particularly ESRI and ArcGIS.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
Self-motivated with effective workload management skills and a willingness to learn new skills.
Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office, and GIS concepts.
Logical thinking and dependability.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate Degree or certificate in GIS mapping or CAD.
Experience in GIS, survey, data analysis, and mapping.
Understanding of CAD systems, although actual use is not required.
Knowledge of natural gas and electrical distribution.
Experience with fiber optics work, make ready design, or utility-related survey work is beneficial.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, with three days on-site at the service center closest to the candidate's location, and two days working remotely. Service centers are located throughout Southwest, South Central, or Southeastern Michigan, including Lansing, Flint, Saginaw, Midland, Livonia, and Royal Oak. The role requires limited travel, approximately 10-15% of the time, with mileage and travel time compensated. The company provides a supportive work-life balance and potential for project extensions or permanent opportunities.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
