The Business Development and Community Relations Internship at the Metro YMCA is a dynamic role focused on increasing membership revenue through prospecting initiatives and lead generation using multifaceted marketing techniques. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to join a high-energy and fun team, working with team leaders to maximize opportunities. The intern will have the chance to use their skills to put together individual presentation and collaborate on group projects. These projects will focus on improving processes, products, designs, and programs at the Metro YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify new prospects and leads for membership sales and program growth.

  • Identify key prospects and follow up with leads to generate conversions.

  • Attend community events to build awareness and generate leads.

  • Assist with team member trainings.

  • Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Important Information about the Metro YMCA Internship Program:

  • The 2023 Summer Internship Program runs from June to August, with some flexibility based on college schedules.

  • Interns must be available to work weekdays, nights, and weekends.

  • Metro YMCA headquarters is located in Livingston, New Jersey, but the internship is a mix of remote and in-person assignments.

  • Funding for this position is provided by the NJ Career Accelerator Grant.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Intern will have the option to work at various Y branches including Wayne, Hackensack, Livingston, Hardyston, East Orange, and Maplewood. Transportation and/or housing within the area is required.

  • Must be enrolled in a New Jersey institution of higher education in Spring or Summer 2023 to qualify.

  • Interns must be available a minimum of 15 work hours per week for at least 10 weeks between June 2023 and August 2023.

  • Passion for the YMCA mission.

  • Relevant coursework or prior internship experience preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to take initiative and demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.

  • Interns should be students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.

  • All interns must have proper authorization to work in the United States.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in accordance to instruction.
