Position Overview
The Utility Fleet Manager supervises the acquisition, maintenance, and management of all vehicles and equipment used in utility operations. This position ensures fleet readiness, regulatory compliance, cost-effectiveness, and supports field operations with reliable fleet services.
Job Duties
Oversee daily utility fleet operations, ensuring timely maintenance, inspections, and repairs of various vehicles and equipment while implementing preventative programs to minimize downtime and track performance.
Ensure fleet compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, CARB, and other regulations by maintaining records, enforcing safety policies, and conducting regular audits.
Manage fleet assets by tracking their lifecycle, coordinating acquisitions and disposals, and maintaining inventory of parts, tools, and equipment.
Control fleet costs by managing budgets, analyzing expenses and fuel usage, optimizing vendor contracts, and identifying savings through technology and process improvements.
Oversee vendor relationships and fleet staff by managing service contracts, supervising personnel, and providing training and performance evaluations.
Leverage fleet management software to track vehicle performance, generate operational reports, and implement technologies that enhance fleet efficiency.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in fleet management of 600+ units, preferably in a utility or municipal multi-state environment
Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and fleet safety standards
Experience with fleet management software (e.g., Samsara, Geotab, Fleetio)
Mechanical knowledge and understanding of vehicle systems
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Valid driver's license
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, automotive technology, or related field
Preferred: Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A/B without air brake restriction
