The Radio Frequency/Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility Technician is responsible for planning, coordinating, performing, subcontracting and documenting electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing in accordance with MIL-STD-461 or similar standards. This individual will also provide technical support to other staff (primarily Engineering) in troubleshooting, mitigating and preventing electromagnetic interference issues with Sechan products.
Position Responsibilities: • Writes detailed, step-by-step EMI Test Procedures and Test Plans based on requirements stated in product requirements documents and applicable published EMI/EMC standards such as MIL-STD-461. • Determines if testing is within Sechan's in house capabilities, in whole or in part as a contribution to Sechan's bid and proposal efforts. Requests quotations for external EMI/EMC testing services or short-term test equipment rentals as required, supporting EMI/EMC testing requirements. • Writes purchase orders to procure external EMI/EMC testing services or short-term test equipment rentals when necessary. • Advises Engineering concerning the design of EMI test cables, qualification test fixtures and qualification test software to ensure compliance of the cables with applicable published standards such as MIL-STD-461 and to ensure that performance of the product is properly monitored during EMI/EMC testing. • Sets up equipment under test, related cabling, fixturing, and product monitoring test equipment in the EMI Laboratory for internal EMI tests. • Uses an EMI receiver, Line Impedance Stabilization Networks (LISNs), micro-ohmeters, signal generators, power amplifiers, transient generators, oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters (DMMs), and other specialized and general-purpose electronic test and measurement equipment to conduct EMI/EMC tests on equipment under test. • Performs conducted emissions, radiated emissions, conducted susceptibility and/or radiated susceptibility tests as required by EMI test procedures on equipment under test during internal EMI tests. • Monitors and controls susceptibility test signals during internal susceptibility testing in accordance with an EMI test procedure. • Monitors the performance of equipment under test during EMI/EMC testing for failure or degradation of performance. • Maintains chronological test logs. Collects emissions data, waveform captures, test stimulus logs, instrument readings, photographs, and other data as required to fully document each test method. • Issues non-conformances in the event of an apparent product failure and communicates the failure to the project team. • Assists Engineering in troubleshooting EMI test failures, determining root causes, and provides recommendations to mitigate the failure. • Generates an EMI test report for each product tested internally. • Reviews externally generated EMI test plans, procedures and reports for completeness and accuracy • Provides estimates of time and cost to perform or subcontract EMI/EMC tests. • Provides recommendations for continuous improvement of the EMI Laboratory. • Assist Engineering with RF design and troubleshooting. • Performing EMI analyses of designs and recommending improvements to assist with EMI susceptibility and emissions compliance. • Performs other duties as assigned to support business goals and objectives.
Skills & Abilities: • Strong background in all areas of electronics, including RF/Microwave measurement techniques. • Ability to complete complex tasks using advanced technical judgem nt and critical thinking. • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and drawings. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with attention to details. • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Windows. • Ability to read and understand electronic schematics.
Qualifications: • Bachelor of Science degree from a 4 year accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or related field. • 6+ years' experience in a related position. • iNARTE Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC/EMI) Certification preferred. • Ability to obtain/maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Work Environment: • Office Environment: Requires physical capability to work in an office environment including sit/stand up to 9 hours a day and use basic office tools such as a computer, copier/printer, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Hours: 7:30 AM -- 5:00 PM Monday -- Thursday; Friday 7:30 AM -- 4:00 PM with additional hours as needed to meet demand. Occasional off-shift hours may also be required to provide support to operations. • 9/80 work schedule. • Office located in Lititz, PA.
