Job Description

The Communications Desk Assistant works in the Georgia Transmission Control Center (GCC) and is responsible for assisting Power System Coordinators in controlling the Integrated Transmission System (ITS) in Georgia. This role involves communicating information about system events with field personnel working on the ITS, to GPC management, and ITS partners. The position tracks system events on transmission lines and equipment, prepares event reports documenting the cause and duration of each event, and fields phone calls from field personnel entering and exiting substations and power line right-of-way. Additionally, some administrative and clerical tasks are performed in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and maintain communication with internal customers (such as the TMCs and supervision) as well as external customers (such as the ITS partners) during system events.

  • Assist Transmission Power System Coordinators in developing and correcting outage reports, maintaining records, and performing clerical and administrative activities in the GCC.

  • Answer phone calls from field personnel entering and exiting substations and power line right-of-way, and enter the information into a database.

  • Perform administrative and clerical tasks.

  • Provide communication to field personnel during routine and emergency conditions.

  • Track system events on transmission lines and equipment.

  • Maintain records of all outages.

Essential Skills

  • Associates degree minimum, Bachelors degree is a plus. Military experience substitute for any degree.

  • If no bachelors degree, successful candidate MUCT have Field experience working for an electric power utility in Generation and/or Transmission maintenance, construction of lines or substations is helpful, military experience, or electrical systems/troubleshooting experience.

  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Excel, Microsoft Word, Windows 7, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work independently as well as interdependently.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of electrical fundamentals or control center operations is desirable.

  • Call enter experience will be acceptable in place of any of the above.

Work Environment

This is an in-office position located at the Transmission Control Center at the corporate office. Candidates must be open to a flexible work schedule, working 4 days a week for 10 hours each day (either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday). Some weekends and holidays may be required, especially during major storms.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
