Stephens & Smith Construction CDL Class A Truck Driver in Lincoln, Nebraska

Stephens & Smith Construction Trucking Division is currently seeking a full-time dynamic and motivated Transportation Personnel to join our team. Transportation Personnel has responsibility for hauling materials and equipment to residential and/or commercial job sites. Your expertise must demonstrate leadership by setting an example in adhering to Safety and Human Resources policies and practices is expected. Upholding Stephens & Smith's mission statement, work ethics, and maintaining quality, safety, and human resources standards is a requirement for TP.

Key Responsibilities (Includes, but not limited to):

  • Adheres to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies to maintain a safe driving record.

  • Provides assistance with the loading and unloading of freight, as needed.

  • Performs daily inspections, both before and after trips, to ensure the truck and equipment are in proper working order.

  • Maintains precise and comprehensive documentation, including the driver's log, in accordance with the rules and regulations set by the State DMV/DOT.

  • Precisely inputs order and delivery information into electronic devices such as tablets, phones, and/or computers.

  • Must consistently maintain a clean driving record, adhering to all DOT regulations and remaining in compliance at all times.

    Preferred (Not required) Talents:

  • Having a basic understanding of truck mechanics and the ability to perform minor repairs or troubleshoot mechanical issues can be beneficial.

  • Proficiency in reading maps, using GPS systems, and navigating unfamiliar routes can help drivers efficiently plan and execute their trips.

  • Being fluent in multiple languages.

  • Strong customer service abilities, including professionalism, communication skills, and a friendly demeanor.

  • Being able to think critically and adapt to unexpected situations on the road, such as traffic congestion or detours, can contribute to successful and efficient deliveries.

  • Effective time management skills, including the ability to plan routes, prioritize tasks, and meet delivery schedules, can enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.

  • Demonstrating a strong work ethic, including reliability, punctuality, and dedication to completing tasks

    Physical Demands

    Definitions: Based on 8-12 hours per day

    Continually 70-100% Regularly 50-70%

    Periodically 20-50% Rarely – less than 20%

  • Continually maintain proper posture and body alignment to minimize discomfort and prevent fatigue.

  • Continually traveling in all weather conditions.

  • Continually being able to sit.

  • Regularly lift and carry cargo. This can include maneuvering pallets, boxes, or other items using proper lifting techniques.

  • Regularly climbing in and out of the truck cab, onto the trailer, or accessing cargo areas may be necessary for securing loads, performing inspections, or making deliveries.

  • Continually able to work eight to ten hour work days each week and occasional weekends.

  • Periodically conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, which involve walking around the vehicle to check tires, lights, brakes, and other components.

  • Periodically handle paperwork, use tools for securing cargo, or operate equipment such as dollies, pallet jacks, or hand trucks

  • Rarely encounter physical exertion, such as pushing or pulling heavy loads or manually adjusting equipment or trailer components.

  • Rarely encounter emergency situations that require physical actions, such as assisting in accident response or performing basic first aid.

    Note: Condition of employment may be determined on employee qualifications and approval of (post offer) drug testing, skill assessment testing, and background check.

    Qualifications:

  • A minimum age requirement of 18 years must be met.

  • Requires a Class A CDL

  • At least one year of experience driving with a Class A CDL is required.

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills is necessary, including the ability to navigate and operate a smartphone and/or tablet.

  • Familiarity with weight, volume, and distance measurements is required.

  • Knowledge and understanding of all DOT rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge in truck maintenance

  • A favorable driving record (Motor Vehicle Record or MVR) is necessary.

  • Must be able to drive a Manual
