About the positions
We are seeking multiple technicians to monitor spring Chinook Salmon sport fisheries on
the Clearwater, lower Salmon, and Snake rivers. These are full time (40+ hours/week) non-
benefited positions. Monitoring is typically four days per week, two randomly chosen
weekdays and both weekend days. Housing (campers) available on a first come basis.
Some irregular overnight stays may be required (tent, department camper, or paid hotel
lodging).
General Information:
The purpose is to monitor Chinook Salmon fisheries to maximize angling opportunity with
available resources. Harvest of hatchery Chinook Salmon is monitored by conducting
angler counts and angler interviews which are used to expand harvest data and generate
weekly harvest estimates.
Responsibilities:
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbent must be able to perform angler
surveys to collect effort and catch data, sample harvested fish, and drive multiple hours
continuously. Incumbents must be able to work under adverse weather conditions, traverse
steep uneven ground, and lift and carry/pack up to 50 lbs. for short distances.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to handle responsibility and work independently. Attention to detail,
organizational skills, and good handwriting are required. This position involves contacting
and interviewing anglers, good communication skills are required. Course work in a Natural
Resource/Biological Science is preferred but not mandatory. Must be at least 18 years of
age and possess a valid drivers license.
