Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES:

Lead, inspire and manage a growing, dynamic, and high performing engineering department. Engage on critical projects as assigned by General Manager.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide subject matter expertise within agreed-upon timeframes to Sales and Applications in the quotation process.

• Recommend and implement metrics on customer satisfaction. During the life cycle of large system projects maintain overall customer satisfaction by anticipating and preventing issues before they become customer concerns, and by optimizing the use of resources.

• Implement the departmental policies and objectives as prescribed by the General Manager. Recommend departmental operating budget and operate department within the budget parameters.

• Maintain an accurate project status tracking system. Collect, monitor, and report on performance at the department level for accountable discipline. Ensure optimal utilization of resources.

• Accountable for the successful execution of the projects. Resolve issues between different groups at the director level.

• Perform SWOT analysis on department as required by the General Manager.

• Recommend and implement best practices and standard designs to improve quality. Direct the implementation of 6 sigma, lean and continuous improvement projects. Measure and report on quality performance data.

• Direct the assessment of new technology to meet anticipated customer requirements as authorized by the General Manager. Perform SWOT analysis on strategic third-party suppliers. Oversee the development of innovative programs to meet industry demand. Recommend and implement design and engineering procedures and standard practices to comply with industry specific regulatory requirements.

• Communicate, implement, and refine the project team culture as prescribed by the General Manager.

• Make recommendations and refinements to job description, competency models, compensation strategy, pay scales and office layout.

• Implement comprehensive performance reviews for direct reports. Produce succession candidates for the Director and Manager roles using the ATS process.

• Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.

• Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environment compliance.

• Hold team members accountable for health, safety, and environmental compliance as part of the annual performance review process.

• Ensure that the requirements of the health, safety and environment management system are implemented and maintained.

• Ensure that training is provided to all departmental employees as per established in the training matrix.

• Provide information, instruction, and supervision to employees.

• Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of employees.

Additional Information

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

A BS degree specializing in technology, engineering or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum 8 – 10 years of experience in automated tooling and equipment design, development, and testing. 2 or more years with demonstrated experience in a management role.

Demonstrate understanding of the systems design process, mechanics/mechatronics, robotics, vision systems, machine controls, structured problem solving, statistical analysis, precision engineering principles is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to lead and work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team is essential.
