Janssen Research & Development LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, is recruiting for a Director of Data Science Portfolio Management, Infectious Diseases and Vaccines . This role will help us bring cutting-edge standard data science (DS) analytics to power scientific initiatives around Discovery, Clinical Trials, Late Development, and Epidemiology for Therapeutic areas, Global Development, and clinical team at Janssen! The role will report to the Vice President/Senior Director DS Portfolio Management and Analytics. This position is location is flexible to Spring House, PA; Titusville, NJ; Cambridge, MA; Beerse, Belgium; Leiden, Netherlands; or London, United Kingdom.

Partner with Data Science colleagues and the IDV Clinical TA to define and prioritize a portfolio of high-impact use cases in alignment with TA strategy and Janssen Research and Development Data Science strategy.
Provide strategic and scientific input regarding Real World Evidence (RWE), Advanced Analytics, Data Science, and epidemiologic projects.
To successfully meet these objectives, this individual will work closely with individual clinical project teams as well as functional area partners in Discovery, Late Development, Epidemiology, Data Science, Quantitative Sciences, and other relevant organizations.
Data Science related activities:
Provide strategic input into the IDV Data Science priorities ranging from individual projects to large collaborations with external vendors and academic institutions
Identify viable data science opportunities and then conceive, develop and implement end to end study design and data analytical solutions. A specific example may include working with the Disease Area Stronghold (DAS) Leaders and Compound Development Teams (CDT) to develop the RWE/Data Science strategy to improve early and late phase clinical study designs by supporting novel patient identification/selection and selection of end points (e.g., identification of at-risk patient populations through development of novel predictive algorithms)
Serves as a key liaison to functional area partners and provide support for collaborations with Data Science, Epidemiology, Quantitative Science, Discovery and Clinical Development teams, and other internal organizations to assure alignment on key Data Science programmatic goals
Other related activities:
Provides medical and scientific contribution to a matrixed cross-functional CDT and the Clinical Team, among others
Provides strategic leadership on managing/addressing specific project/program-related issues and presenting to and negotiating with leadership teams on development plans or program-related issues.
Participate on and may lead cross-functional teams for evaluation of new scientific opportunities, disease areas, product ideas, implement franchise business strategies, etc.
Provides key input into diligence activities
Participates or leads cross-departmental or cross-functional projects with broad Janssen impact
Authors abstracts and scientific manuscripts for publication based on clinical trial data, real-world data, observational studies etc.
Builds credible relationships with opinion leaders and may act as company spokesperson regarding publication of research findings and presentations to relevant health authorities and consultant/advisory meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
MD, PHD, Master’s, or PharmD (or equivalent) in relevant area
Disease area expertise in Infectious Diseases and/or Vaccines is strongly preferred
A strong background in RWE/Data Science, as evidenced by an advanced degree in statistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, epidemiology, applied mathematics, computer science, physics, engineering or related fields
Experience working with and leading cross-disciplinary teams
Experience working in pharmaceutical or biotech industry with strong knowledge of drug discovery and development
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills is required
Experience handling healthcare relevant datasets, such as EHR, insurance claims or registry data, is required.
Strong working knowledge of machine learning algorithms (Random Forest, SVM, neural networks, etc.), exploratory data analysis, statistical modeling, signal processing and/or Natural Language Processing techniques is preferred.
Experience and knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and regulatory requirements for the conduct of clinical trials and for the appropriate contributions to regulatory filings is preferred
