Dartmouth Health Associate Perioperative Support Technician in Lebanon, New Hampshire

Overview

As a Perioperative Support Technician at Dartmouth Health, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our surgical operations. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks; from meticulously preparing surgical equipment, to collaborating closely with the perioperative team while maintaining a sanitized and efficient surgical environment. Key elements to this position include ensuring proper preperation of the Operating Room and ensuring all necessary equipment is available and functioning properly while providing support to surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and sets up complex equipment and supplies for hemodynamic monitoring, and ensures that all equipment and supplies are available and properly sanitized.

  • Performs daily anesthesia equipment inspections, daily calibrations on all anestheshia laboratory equipment, and ensures the anesthesia machine is ready for use prior to the start of each surgical case- including troubleshooting and correcting problems.

  • Responsible for the disinfecting, maintainence, and set up of all anesthesia equipment, including transducer set-ups, blood warmers, and fiber optic scopes.

  • Retrieves special anesthesia supplies that are anticipated and/or requested by the provider administering the anesthetic before and during surgery.

  • Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Anesthesia provider, Assists in positioning and preparing patients for the administration of regional anesthesia and/or surgical procedures, participates in the transfer of patients to stretchers, beds, and/or operating room tables, and performs point of care laboratory testing.

  • Responsible for stocking and maintaining non-controlled medications for anesthesia to use intraoperatively. Stocks anesthesia specialty carts, nerve block room and Birthing Pavilion.

  • Executes turnover, terminal, and scheduled cleaning processes for all Perioperative areas including procedural and non-procedural spaces, restricted and semi-restricted spaces and all equipment contained therein.

  • Follows all infection control protocols in sanatizing the Operating Rooms and surrounding spaces, according to AORN guidelines, to prevent Surgical Site Infections (SSI). Ensures proper handling of sharps containers, as well as soiled linen and trash to prevent blood-borne pathogen exposures.

  • Responsible for transporting patients to and from the operating room while maintaining a clean and safe envornment. Ensures availability of gas tanks and regulators for safe transfer of patients.

  • Manages inventory of surgical supplies and equipment while ensuring quality and reviewing for outdates. Maintains nursing specialty carts, nursing sets, all OR and anesthesia supply areas, and suture carts.

  • Masters the set up of multiple Operating Room (OR) tables for various specialty procedures.

  • Understands and maintains all compentencies to help assist with the setup and turnover of trauma surgical cases and emergent situations. Ability to work cohesively as a team during fast paced, stressful situations.

  • Prepares special infusion devices (FMS Rapid Infuser and Level 1), and other specialty equipment for trauma and emergent procedures.

  • Assembles autotransfusion disposabls in an aspetic fashion

  • Disposes of contaminated materials in accoradance with infection prevention policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure biohazardous waste is managed appropriately.

  • Assists with the onboarding of new employees, offering guidance and mentorship to ensure we are providing the highest quality care to our patients.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or GED) strongly preferred.

  • Ability to anticipate, prioritize, and coordinate work in a high stress environment (which involves responding to emergency situations and tight schedules) required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrates reliability and strong attention to detail.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Must obtain BLS Certification within four (4) weeks of hire date

  • Must be registered with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians within four (4) weeks of hire

  • Area of Interest:Allied Health;
