HVAC Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to perform HVAC maintenance at Fort Sill. The role involves performing maintenance and repair on hydronic and refrigeration systems, domestic and heating hot water boilers, and commercial/residential HVAC systems. The position offers a stable Monday-Friday schedule from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm year-round with minimal overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair on hydronic and refrigeration systems including air handling units, DX coil/condensing units, fan coil units, and variable air volume (VAV) units.

  • Maintain, repair, or replace domestic and heating hot water boilers (1,000,000 BTU and under).

  • Maintain, repair, or replace commercial/residential HVAC systems under 25 tons.

  • Follow mechanical code for installing and replacing HVAC systems.

  • Mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.

  • Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.

  • Install evaporator units in chassis or air-duct systems using hand tools.

  • Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting/bending equipment and tools.

  • Cut and thread pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.

  • Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units using sleeves, couplings, unions, and solder joints, forming a complete circuit for refrigerant.

  • Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.

  • Inject small amounts of refrigerant into compressors to test systems and add freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.

  • Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.

  • Test joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap and water solution.

  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.

Essential Skills

  • HVAC experience and/or formal vocational training (2-4.5+ years).

  • EPA Universal Certification.

  • Experience troubleshooting HVAC systems.

  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug, background check, and driving screening.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).

  • Self-starter, capable of working with minimal direction and supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Military job code 91M (Utilities Equipment Repairer) is preferred.

  • Experience in both residential and commercial troubleshooting is preferred.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Lawton, Oklahoma.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45760.00 - $61360.00/yr.

Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 year-round with minimal overtime.

Base Pay: $23.50 hourly plus $6.00 an hour for health and welfare

Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, and other coverage: employer contribution offered to cover employee-only tier. 11 paid holidays, 10 days’ vacation, 7 days sick leave
