Job Description:

80% Teaching. Teach one or more courses in Accounting. Courses may be required or electives, in undergraduate or graduate programs, and range from 1-4 credit hours. Duties include but are not limited to: course preparation, instruction, consultations, and assignment of grades. Lecturers should abide by the area's, School's and University's policies and procedures.

20% Service. Participate in events, meetings, committees, and/or leadership roles as needed to support the Area, School, and University. Specific duties will vary by individual. Examples include leadership of student organizations, advising, attendance at school events, and working on curricular or other committees.

Required Qualifications:

For undergraduate courses:

  1. Master’s degree in accounting or closely related field.

  2. A demonstrated record of teaching in an academic setting or a record of mentorship, leadership or training experience in a professional setting.

For master’s level courses, meets one of the following combinations of education and professional experience:

  1. A Ph.D. in relevant discipline, or

  2. Master’s degree plus four or more years of senior level experience directly related to specific area of instruction, or

  3. Master’s degree plus two years work experience and additional certification, research, or specialized training directly related to area of instruction.

Position Overview:

Lecturers serve as either part-time or full-time members of the faculty in the School of Business. FTE is determined by the course load. Lecturers are a non-tenure track faculty position. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate and/or graduate courses offered by the School of Business on the Lawrence Campus, Edwards Campus, off campus programs, and/or online programs.

Lecturers serve as participating members of departments and should engage in instruction-related activities beyond direct instruction. Examples include curriculum development committees, course improvement initiatives, and advising.

Applications will be reviewed and placed in a pool to be considered for teaching positions as needed. Applications will be accepted throughout the year. Appointments are one semester, renewable, subject to review and funding. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Any employment with the University of Kansas is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.
