Job Description:

40% - Equipment Inspection : Follows a daily inspection route through and assigned area. Notes any conditions needing attention and/or performs minor repairs to correct problems such as damage to paint or walls, damaged ceiling or floor tiles, leaking water or gas pipes and fixtures, malfunctioning HVAC equipment, burned out lights, etc. Reports findings and any repair work done to supervisor. Performs monthly testing of life safety equipment, emergency generators, stand- alone lighting invertors, and other smaller power sources. Performs any related work assigned by supervisor.

25% - General Maintenance and Repair : Performs a wide variety of assigned maintenance and repair tasks such as replacing ceiling and floor tiles, patching holes in walls and repainting, replacing leaking plumbing parts and fixtures such as faucet washers, lavatories, remounting mirrors, towel dispensers, and other restroom fixtures. Performs lubrication, cleaning inspections, changes of belts and filters in HVAC and exhaust equipment. Replaces, or repairs lights, switches, receptacles, and other electrical equipment. Works alone or with other technicians under general supervision by more skilled tradespersons.

20% - Equipment Records and Inventories : Inventories new or added equipment to appropriate lists. Corrects and/or updates equipment information to maintain accurate listings for assigned area.

10% - Emergency Calls : Responds to emergency calls involving loss of utilities and/or equipment failure. Resets breakers, rigs emergency power cables, helps repair leaks in water or steam lines, repairs elevators, air conditioners, etc. Repairs are performed as time and expertise permits. More complex repairs are performed under the direct supervision of more skilled tradespersons. Performs any related work assigned by supervisor.

5% - Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Six months of experience in building, grounds or mechanical trades. Associate's Degree or vocational school certificate may be substituted for experience.

  2. High school diploma or GED equivalency.

  3. Must have a valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment.

Advertised Salary Range:

No less than $28,080 annually ($13.50 hourly). Salary offers increase with relevant experience.

Position Overview:

Facilities Services supports KU's mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds. The incumbent will function as part of a team of maintenance staff who are responsible for the preventive maintenance program for Facilities Services. Work involves general maintenance and repair which may pertain to a wide variety of areas such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical and carpentry. The incumbent also responds to emergency calls involving loss of utilities and/or equipment failure, performs equipment inspection, and maintains records of equipment. This position requires the operation of work issued vehicles.
